Inn Break
Right then. What next for MI? They take on Rajasthan Royals in their quest for their 6th successive win, this time in Jaipur, on Thursday, 1st May, 2025. On the other hand, LSG have nearly a week's break, before they head north to Dharamsala, to meet the Punjab Kings on Sunday, 4th May, 2025. But we are not done yet. The second match of this Sunday double header is already underway in Delhi with RCB and DC trading blows. Do head over there to that matchcentre. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Interesting. Mumbai Indians' WILL JACKS HAS BEEN AWARDED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. 29 (21) with the bat and then a double-wicket over to boot. On being asked about what does he prefer being called - batter who can bowl or an allrounder, Jacks smiles and says that he is a batter but does focus on his bowling. Doesn't think of himself as a part timer and loves to contribute whenever called upon. Admits that Pooran and Pant were big wickets as Lucknow Super Giants were going really well at that stage and was elated to get both the left handers at that stage. Is not too sure whether he can be called as the slayer of left handers and says that he just loves to bowl. Thanks the captain and management for giving him an opportunity to be a part of this family. Opines that MI are finding a nice rhythm but still have some work to do. On Jasprit Bumrah, Will calls him an incredible bowler, detailing that he had the displeasure of facing Bumrah in the nets and cannot say how good is he, in words. Ends by saying that Boom Boom is just amazing to watch.
The victorious skipper of Mumbai Indians, HARDIK PANDYA, is all smiles as he comes on to share his views. Hardik says carrying the momentum was important and the way the team has responded in front of such a special crowd is impressive. Mentions that everybody took their chances and chipped in wonderfully both with the bat and the ball to make a big impact. Says good teams are made of such contributions and lauds the way the entire team came in with contributions. On him bowling just one over, Pandya says he felt Bosch could do well on this surface and that was the only reason. Concludes that they as a group are very aware of not letting things get carried away and will take one game at a time and look to carry the momentum.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
The IPL debutant, CORBIN BOSCH, is up next, for a chat. On being asked about when did he get to know about his IPL debut, Bosch informs that he got the news in the morning through head coach Mahela Jayawardene. Adds that since Mitchell Santner was ruled out of this game, he was chosen as the replacement. Calls it a super special day, as it is his brother (Eathan Bosch's) birthday as well. Adds further that it is a special day to make his MI debut as well on the ESA day. Details that this morning, he was jealous of brother Eathan as the birthday boy was celebrating but now, he (Corbin) is the one much happier. On receiving praise from former Aussie allrounder Shane Watson, CB says that he actually looks up to Watson, as he was destructive with both bat and ball, adding that he wants to become like Watto in the future. On his thought process while batting, Corbin Bosch says that he was just thinking of making contact with the ball and once he did that, the nerves settled down. On his bowling, Bosch says that he is working on his bowling and thanks MI's bowling mentor Lasith Malinga for really helping his confidence. On a preferred batting position, Corbin says that he is just happy to bat wherever the team needs him to and is ready to contribute towards the team. Ends by saying that it has been absolutely fantastic for the kids and the team just wanted to make this day extra special for them and calls it a fantastic initiative from the Mumbai Indians.
The captain of Lucknow Super Giants, RISHABH PANT, says the decision to chase was the right call as they backed their batters while also giving the best of the conditions for their bowlers, but it just wasn't their day. Adds that he doesn't want to question a lot about how they bowled as a team and gives credit to Mumbai Indians for playing well. On his own batting, Pant says he doesn't want to think too much and wants to keep it simple in this team-driven game. Lauds the way Mayank Yadav came back in his very first match and hopes for him to get better and better every game.
Incorrect call at the toss? Perhaps, in hindsight. In Mumbai, with the sun beating down hard, the pitches do tend to crack and slow down a touch in the late afternoon. Lucknow Super Giants were looking for early wickets with the ball but barring Rohit Sharma, the other batters made them work for their wickets. Just 5 bowlers were used and the pressure told, as everyone went around the park, with only two overs being as one without a boundary. With the bat, Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni gave a bit of a headache to the home side, being 103/3 at the 10-over mark. But Marsh's wicket caused a collapse and it turned out to be a big loss in the end. As many as 4 batters got starts but could not convert those, which was the difference between the two sides.
It was the B and B show for MI. Jasprit Bumrah was back at his best, bowling yorkers at will, ending with 4 wickets while Trent Boult helped himself to 3 as well. In the process, Bumrah went on to become the leading wicket taker for Mumbai Indians in the IPL while Trent Boult picked up his 50th scalp in MI colours. But in between these two legends, along came Will Jacks, who chipped in with two wickets as well. The Englishman has turned out to be more than a part timer, picking up 5 wickets, at an average of 15.6 and an economy of 7.09!
A near-perfect performance by the home side. Lost the toss, were asked to bat and they responded in strong style. Ryan Rickelton led the early charge and then Suryakumar Yadav handled the middle overs. Half centuries from both players with decent cameos towards the end saw MI cross the 200-mark and post 215 on the board, which turned out to be more than enough. Then, with the ball, barring for a brief period during the Powerplay, the bowlers were clinical, with experience coming out trumps.
150TH WIN IN THE IPL FOR MUMBAI INDIANS. The first team to achieve this feat, with Chennai Super Kings way behind at 140 in second place. Also, this is the fifth successive win for Hardik Pandya and his men, who also get their fourth win at home this season, in 5 matches. Provisionally, they move to second but because the next game between DC and RCB will see the winner move to 14 points, MI will automatically drop down to third by the end of the day.

Trent Boult To Digvesh Singh OUT!
OUT! CASTLED! Trent Boult gets his third and Mumbai Indians wrap the game by 54 runs. Boult steams in and fires a full-length ball, angling it in, on middle and leg. Digvesh Singh is way too late on his shot and looks to drag it across the line, only to get beaten by pace. The ball goes on to crash into the leg stump, and Lucknow Super Giants are all out for 161, at the end of 20 overs.

A review for a caught behind. A length ball, following the batter down the leg side, Prince Yadav looks to flick but misses. There is a noise and the keeper appeals but the umpire stays unmoved. Mumbai Indians go for the review but UltraEdge detects the spike when the ball is near the pad.
Meanwhile, news from Delhi is that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won the toss and elected to chase against Delhi Capitals, in match number 46. Interesting thoughts from both captains, with Rajat Patidar citing the good nature of the wicket while Axar Patel saying that the wicket will slow down, so is happy to bat first. No Phil Salt for RCB, replaced by Jacob Bethell while for DC, Faf du Plessis returns.

Trent Boult To Ayush Badoni OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Well, did not get a wicket in the previous over, does not matter for MI! 50TH WICKET FOR TRENT BOULT IN THE IPL IN MI COLOURS! A length ball, around middle and off, angling away, excellent change of pace, Ayush Badoni stays away to the leg side and tries to get it up and over the infield on the off side. But he cannot manufacture the pace and plays the shot way too early. Ends up chipping it tamely to Will Jacks at point. Badoni departs for 35 (22) and from 110/3, Lucknow Super Giants are now 135/5. Need another 81 from 34 balls.

STRATEGIC TIMEOUT. Lucknow Super Giants are fast approaching a do-or-die period in this chase. They got 60 in the Powerplay but have added only 74 in the next 8 overs. As a standalone, that is a good stat but when the required rate is close to 11 from the start, it is not good enough. With 82 needed from 36 balls, David Miller needs to revisit what his father used to say in his early playing days - 'If the ball is in Miller's arc, it is out of the park'. MI have been bowling excellently, using the dimensions of the boundaries to near perfection. They were struggling a touch in the Powerplay but once the ball has gotten older and softer, they have strut their skills. Will Jacks is turning out to be more than a handy part timer for this side. Here's Trent Boult again, trying to break this partnership and nip the chase in the bud. 2-0-12-1 so far.

SIX! Ayush Badoni surely bags a punch. Tossed up, over the eyelid of Badoni, around leg. Ayush Badoni moves away from the stumps and lofts this with the full face of his bat and with the spin for a biggie down the ground towards long off.

OUT! The poor run of games continues for Pant. Tossed up around middle and leg, Rishabh Pant opts to go for the reverse sweep but he gets cramped for room to play this as this was dished closer to the batter. Pant ends up helping this into the hands of Karn Sharma at short third for a regulation catch.

FOUR! A boundary to begin the innings for Rishabh Pant, not the most convincing though. Short of a length around off, Rishabh Pant looks to cut this through point but gets it edged and still manages to find the gap towards the right of short third for four runs.
Impact substitute time? Not yet. In comes skipper Rishabh Pant at number 4, replacing Nicholas Pooran.

Will Jacks To Nicholas Pooran OUT!
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! CAUGHT! MI return the favour to LSG by picking up a wicket right after the break. Tossed up, turning away from Nicky P around his off stump. Pooran looks to clear the fence down the ground but doesn't get enough power to take it sailing over the fielder at long off. Suryakumar Yadav, donning the Orange Cap, moves swiftly to his left, dives and holds onto this catch. Nicholas Pooran departs right outside the Powerplay.
STRATEGIC TIMEOUT. Almost a mirror image of the first innings. Digvesh Singh conceded 19 in the final over of the Powerplay during LSG's bowling and Rishabh Pant called for a timeout immediately after the 6th over. Deepak Chahar goes for 20 in the final over of the fielding restrictions and Hardik Pandya has done the same here. Nothing much to choose between the two sides at this point - LSG are 60/1, while MI were 66/1. Actually, it has not been a bad bowling effort from MI. Out of 60, Deepak Chahar has gone for 38, but that too, 20 came in one over. Lucknow possess a deep batting lineup, but if truth be told, their batting has been revolving only around the top 3. If they are to chase this down, they would need the likes of Miller, Pant and Badoni to fire, with one batter batting deep. Time for spin. Here's Will Jacks.

Jasprit Bumrah To Aiden Markram OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Excellent timing, but that brings about Markram's downfall! History made at the Wankhede as JASPRIT BUMRAH BECOMES THE LEADING WICKET TAKER FOR MUMBAI INDIANS IN THE IPL! Gets his 171st scalp, which takes him beyond Lasith Malinga, one of the all-time greats. Coming to the ball, it is a length ball, around off and Aiden Markram shows the excellent quality of his wrists. He just works this beautifully and does not bother to keep it down. But to his dismay, the ball travels sweetly and straight to the lone man at deep mid-wicket! Naman Dhir makes no mistake and Bumrah has his hands aloft, with a smile. Markram, who was looking good, departs for 9 (11) and Lucknow Super Giants are 18/1, needing another 198 from 104 balls.
