New Zealand beat India by 25 runs
Right then, that is it from this Test and this series as well. New Zealand clean sweeps India with some excellent performances in all three games. The trophy has been handed over to the Kiwi skipper, Tom Latham who joins his teammates and lifts it together, and poses for some pictures. The hosts do not have much time to think about this as they have a 4-match T20I series coming up against South Africa. The first game will be played on 8th November. New Zealand takes on Sri Lanka in the shortest format as well in a 2-game series with the first one scheduled for 9th November. As far as the WTC is concerned, India's next stop is Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting from 22nd November while New Zealand will be hosting England in a three-match series. The first Test will be played on 28th November. But as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to every game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Tom Latham, the victorious skipper of New Zealand says that he is very ecstatic about this series win. Adds that the boys have done a very good job, and they were challenged with the bat and ball, but they overcame it. Tells that the seamers did the job in Bangalore and different players stepped up at different times for them. Mentions that in the last game, it was Santner and this time it was Ajaz Patel. Says that they wanted to come here and be aggressive with the bat and proactive with the ball. Further adds that they did not play that badly in Sri Lanka, but here they fell on the right side of the toss and adapted to the conditions brilliantly. Ends by saying that the girls winning the T20 World Cup was special, but this series win is also a very memorable one for them.
Will Young is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for his consistent run with the bat in such tough batting conditions. Young says it is a massive win and is very proud of the boys. Says he just tries to keep it simple and trusts his defense a lot. On being asked about what he has achieved, he says it is about coming here and creating happy memories with the boys.
Ajaz Patel is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his incredible 11/160 in this game. He says that he might have to carry a little piece of this ground everywhere he goes. Adds that spin bowling is all about rhythm, and he did not find that in Pune but here he felt much more in control. Mentions that he was confident in the morning session on Day 2 but the pitch did not offer much. However, after Lunch, it started to turn more and he felt more confident using his shape guile. Says that Rishabh Pant put a lot of pressure on them, and he had to think out of the box to do something different against him.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of India is up for a chat. He says it is a bitter pill to swallow. Says losing a series at home is not digestible. Accepts that they didn't play their best cricket and that New Zealand totally outplayed them. Adds that they didn't put enough runs in the first innings in the first two Tests and were always behind the game. Tells that in this game, they had the lead but failed to capitalize on that. Adds that while chasing, it is important to build partnerships, which they considerably failed. Mentions they wanted to apply themselves in the game well but that didn't go as planned. Further adds that there are certain areas he focuses on when he goes out to bat, but it didn't come off this series. About the positives, Rohit says that Pant, Gill, and Sundar have shown how to bat on these kinds of surfaces and that you have to be proactive and be aware of what to do. Says this was an unfortunate series and admits that even as a captain, he wasn't at his best to lead the side. Ends by saying that they collectively failed as a unit.
Presentation Time...
Daryl Mitchell is up for a quick chat. He says it feels really special to win the Test match on such a historic ground and more special to clean sweep the world-class Indian side. On the surface, he mentions that they knew that it was turning a lot so they wanted to put pressure on the bowlers States they aimed to survive as long as they could and wanted to land the ball in the right areas and wait for their chances. Says they are just a bunch of Kiwis ready to take on the world.
Akash Deep struck early with Tom Latham’s wicket, but Devon Conway and Will Young battled hard to narrow the gap to 2 by Tea. Sensing survival alone wouldn’t be enough, the Kiwis batted aggressively in the final session, but the Indian spinners kept striking back. Ravichandran Ashwin’s brilliant catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell turned the tide, and though Will Young’s fifty and Glenn Phillips’ cameo pushed the lead past 100, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s combined seven wickets left New Zealand at 171/9, setting up an intense finale.
India started Day 2 with an aggressive intent, as Rishabh Pant took 12 runs off the first over, setting an electric tone. Pant and Shubman Gill both reached fifties, pushing the Kiwis onto the back foot as they scrambled to contain runs. New Zealand got a lucky break before Lunch when Ish Sodhi ended a promising 96-run stand. The second session saw a Kiwi comeback, with Ajaz Patel’s impressive five-for limiting India to a slim 28-run lead.
Will Young, continuing his rich vein of form, displayed exceptional temperament in crafting a well-made 71, while Daryl Mitchell emerged as the innings' top-scorer with a determined 82. However, the spin duo of Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja proved too hot to handle on the responsive surface. Their exceptional bowling performance cut short New Zealand's aspirations of batting through the first day, restricting them to a modest total of 235. When India came out to bat, they had a huge opportunity to go past New Zealand's total, but there came a twist. More than a twist, a streak of unwanted shots, and a hasty run-out that reduced India to 86/4 at the end of the first day.
In what turned out to be a fascinating Test match, New Zealand's decision to bat first on the red-soil surface didn't quite go according to plan. The pitch revealed its true colors early on, offering significant turn from day one and challenging the Kiwi batter's technique against spin. Despite losing early wickets and finding themselves in a precarious position, the Black Caps showed remarkable resilience through a game-changing 87-run partnership between Will Young and Daryl Mitchell.
Coming into Day 3, we knew we would get a result but the pendulum shifted from one team to another and every ball was an event. New Zealand set up a target of 147 runs adding just 3 to their overnight score, but their bowlers were absolutely fantastic. Matt Henry with a great plan got rid of Rohit Sharma early and it started a collapse. The hosts found themselves at 29/5 in the blink of an eye. However, Rishabh Pant started a counter-attack and steadied the ship along with Jadeja for a while. He went on to get a half-century, but never really got support from the other end and once he was dismissed on 64, it was all New Zealand. Ajaz Patel shined with a match-winning six-wicket haul while Glenn Phillips supported well with three wickets helping to a victory by 25 runs.
NEW ZEALAND CREATES HISTORY IN INDIA! This is probably one of their finest-ever Test wins and we can see that from their celebrations and how much it means to them. They not only whitewash India here but also keep their chances alive for the World Test Championship final. It was once again, Ajaz Patel who came back to haunt them at his birthplace and he absolutely loves it here at Wankhede. For India, Rishabh Pant fought a lone battle and it looked like he would take the game away, but the Kiwis had other ideas and registered a special, special win.

Ajaz Patel To Washington Sundar OUT!
OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! NEW ZEALAND BLANK INDIA OUT IN THIS 3-MATCH TEST SERIES AND EXECUTE A DOMINATING CLEAN SWEEP! History has been scripted at the Wankhede Stadium and probably the greatest Test series win in the history of New Zealand cricket. And this is the first ever time when India has been whitewashed in a 3-match Test series on their home soil. Absolute pin-drop silence in the stadium but exactly contradictory scenes in the visitors' camp as their joy knows no bounds. Coming to the delivery, Ajaz Patel bowls it from over the stumps, and tosses this one up. Full in length, outside off, and it lands right on the rough and spins back in viciously. Washington Sundar sits down to access the slog sweep but the turn gets the better of him. He gets no bat on it and the ball disturbs the furniture. Ajaz Patel finish off with a spectacular 6-for but this has been a complete team performance by the Blackcaps. They win this series by 3-0.

Glenn Phillips To Akash Deep OUT!
OUT! BOWLED'EM! TOTALLY OUTFOXED! GLENN PHILLIPS, YOU BEAUTY! He pitches this one right on the money, full and just outside off. It lands, grips and turns back in prodigiously. Akash Deep takes his front foot out to defend but plays over the line of the ball which creates a huge gap between the bat and the pad. The ball turns sharply and sneaks through the gates before crashing into the wickets. New Zealand just a solitary wicket away from creating history at the Wankhede. And 26 surely feels like an Everest to climb now. PHILLIPS ON A HAT TRICK.
Akash Deep comes out to the middle now.

Glenn Phillips To Ravichandran Ashwin OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! An appeal and up goes the finger. Ravichandran Ashwin though reviews it and challenges the on-field decision. But another unnecessary shot selection here by an Indian batter. Coming to the ball, this is a fuller-length delivery, just around off, spinning a tad bit into the batter. Ravichandran Ashwin premeditates and sits down to reverse sweep. Goes through the shot but doesn't get any bat on it and Tom Blundell does the rest behind the stumps. UltraEdge comes up and shows the spike off the gloves. OUT IT IS! India lose their 8th wicket and New Zealand can believe it now. India need 26 more to win.

A stifled appeal for LBW, but the umpire says no! Ajaz Patel is not that interested but Tom Latham is and takes the review. Floated, full and around off, turns in sharply, Washington Sundar strides out and lets it hit his pads. Latham thinks it has spun enough to hit the stumps but Ball Tracking shows otherwise. A poor review from New Zealand and they do not have any more left to use.

Ajaz Patel To Rishabh Pant OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! Oh dear oh dear! We have another twist in the tale in this game, Rishabh Pant is not happy with this decision but has to walk back. Ajaz Patel slows it up a bit, full and on off, turns in sharply with bounce, Rishabh Pant uses his feet and looks to defend but the ball passes close to the inside edge and pops up, Tom Blundell, the keeper gets forward and completes the catch. Another appeal for bat-pad, but turned down again! Tom Latham is desperate here and decides to take the review. UltraEdge shows a spike when the bat hits his pad, but there is also a spike when the ball is close to the bat and there is no gap in the replay. The third umpire overturns the on-field call and there is complete silence around the ground. Pant cannot believe it one bit, and has an animated chat with the on-field umpire, Michael Gough. But, it is done and dusted as the decision has been made and he goes back with the slowest walks to the dressing room, departing after 64 off 57 and this is anyone's game now. Boos all around the Wankhede as the controller of the game is gone. Ajaz Patel gets his 7th five-wicket haul, and each of them has come in the subcontinent. New Zealand can now sense history in the making as they are just 3 wickets away from executing a clean sweep.

First runs after Lunch! Glenn Phillips starts with a short delivery, on leg, Washington Sundar nudges it through mid-wicket for a single.
Welcome back, folks, for the second and what could possibly be the final session of this riveting Test series. There hasn't been one dull moment in this series and this is turning out to be a perfect culmination. The crowd is absolutely electric at the Wankhede and why not! India's hopes rely well and truly on Rishabh Pant as he walks out to resume his inning with Washington Sundar. The players of New Zealand too, take their fielding positions after a brief huddle talk. It will be Glenn Phillips to resume the proceedings with the ball for the visitors. Here we go...
... DAY 3, SESSION 2 ...
But India's biggest enemy? Themselves. Instead of playing smart cricket with singles and calculated risks, they opted for rash unwanted shots and paid the price. And those earlier lusty blows from New Zealand's tail - Ajaz and Henry each clearing the ropes once - now felt like decisive punches in this nail-biting contest. Twelve precious runs turned from footnotes to headlines in this gripping chase. Well then, the equation now stands as - India needs 55 runs for a consolation win, and New Zealand are just 4 quality deliveries away from executing the clean sweep on the Indian soil. Who will handle the pressure well? We will find out in the second session that begins in about 40 minutes from now. Stay tuned.
Ajaz Patel though couldn't step a wrong foot in this game. Just as Pant and Jadeja looked set to steer India home, Ajaz Patel broke their 42-run stand. Call it a huge slice of luck for Pant, as him playing his usual fearless cricket, had earlier survived a close call - Latham's decision not to review coming back to haunt the Kiwis. This reprieve turned him into a crisis man for India as he constructed a precious 50 which of course looked more than a ton.
While Latham's tactical field placements kept the pressure cooker whistling, with the field being crowded near the batter, Pant had other ideas. True to his fearless philosophy, he danced down the track fearlessly, launching boundaries at will. His aggressive intent, coupled with Jadeja's calm presence at the other end, started shifting the momentum gradually. The scoreboard kept ticking on with timely singles and doubles.
New Zealand were never going to go without a fight and that's exactly what happened. Matt Henry drew first blood early, but it was Ajaz Patel who truly ignited the Kiwi charge, claiming two massive scalps in his first two overs. With the Wankhede pitch playing tricks and dancing to the tune of the spinners, 147 felt like scaling Everest. Latham's masterstroke of introducing Phillips paid instant dividends - his golden arm striking in the very first over. Before India could even blink, their batting fortress lay in ruins - Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill, Kohli, and Sarfaraz were all back in the pavilion scoring only 19 runs between them. From chase to crisis, the game had turned on its head with New Zealand closing in on executing the most unthinkable.
With a target of 147 runs that seemed achievable on paper, India's victory appeared within grasp. However, their persistent opening partnership troubles came back to haunt them. Rohit Sharma's impetuous decision to play a rash pull shot led to his downfall, while Shubman Gill's misjudgment resulted in his dismissal for just one run. What initially appeared to be a manageable chase quickly transformed into a daunting task as India found themselves three wickets down inside the first five overs with Virat too making zero impact.
Staring at a challenging position with only one wicket remaining, New Zealand's last pair of Ajaz Patel and William O'Rourke aimed to show resilience at the crease. However, their hopes were swiftly shattered by the brilliance of Ravindra Jadeja, who capped off a magnificent spell with a five-wicket haul.
LUNCH, DAY 3! SESSION SUMMARY - 22.2 Overs, 95 runs, 7 wickets. The players head for Lunch, but not quite sure whether any of the teams would be able to get anything under their throats. Superb last 20 minutes or so for India after a monumental collapse, yet again. The session would have well and truly gone New Zealand's way but Rishabh Pant proved to be the cog in their wheel and he stands as the lone warrior battling it out. And as long as Pant is there, India's hopes are alive, but still, hanging by a thread.

Ajaz Patel To Ravindra Jadeja OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! A fantastic catch from Will Young! Ajaz Patel gets his fourth and breaks the 42-run stand. This is a bit quicker, short and on middle, Ravindra Jadeja moves back to flick it away hard. But he only manages an inside edge onto his pads as the ball lobs up wide of short leg, Young dives to his right and grabs it with his outstretched right hand by tumbling over. Sharp awareness by Young. India needs 76 more runs to win with only 4 wickets in hand!
