Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians by 36 runs
Right then, the Titans are up and running but MI remain one of the only two teams to still be without a win. Next up, it is a double header lined up for IPL fans on Sunday, 30 March. First up, Delhi Capitals will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam in what looks to be another high-scoring match and that will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). That will be followed by Rajasthan Royals hosting Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but you can join us sooner for the build-up of both those games. Cheers!
Prasidh Krishna is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his fine bowling effort and that is his first POTM award in IPL. Starts by saying that he doesn't have many words to say and was itching to get out and bowl and he's never waited that long to bowl in a T20 game. Adds that they watched the first innings closely and knew the cutters and the deliveries into the pitch were doing the trick. Goes on to say that he knew what was working and didn't try to test the speed gun and kept things simple.
Shubman Gill, the skipper of Gujarat Titans, starts by saying that the decision was made before the first match that they would play this match on black soil and their batting and bowling is also suited more to this pitch. Adds that once the ball gets old on this pitch, it gets difficult to hit the boundaries and hence, they tried to go hard in the Powerplay. Mentions that they can talk about plans but in the end, all that matters is that it came off for them and goes on to say that he kept Rashid Khan for the death but the pacers bowled well in the middle phase and opted to let Prasidh Krishna finish his lovely spell. He ends by saying that he is looking forward to the next couple of games.
The Presentation ceremony...
Sai Kishore is now down for a quick chat. Sai starts by saying that Hardik Pandya is a friend of his and they try to keep the rivalry on the field, during the game. Goes on to say that he didn't get much purchase off the deck and needed to bowl defensively in order to help the team. On his contest with Suryakumar Yadav, Sai reckons that SKY played really well and almost nailed every sweep shot but the skipper also helped him out. Mentions that he is looking forward to the season and has worked really hard and hopes that it is a fruitful season.
Hardik Pandya, the captain of Mumbai Indians, says that it is tough to point out one thing in particular as they lagged behind in all three departments and ended up conceding 20 or so run more than they should have. Adds that the opposition openers batted well and the bowlers didn't bowl badly as they managed to take minimal risk and still find the boundaries. Mentions that the top order shouldn't be a concern but they need to take responsibility and hopefully, the batters come to the party. Adds that the opposition picked up the way he bowled and the off paced deliveries were difficult to put away as the bounce was variable as well.
Earlier in the game, Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first on a black-soil pitch which Gujarat Titans prepared keeping Mumbai Indians in mind as MI are used to play on a red soil pitch at Wankhede. The GT openers took things in their hands and smashed 66 runs in the Powerplay. However, the pitch quickly slowed down and batting wasn't easy but Jos Buttler managed to hit his way out of trouble and the top three did enough to ensure GT got to a formidable total. MI bowled well in the second half and it was skipper Hardik Pandya who used the variations brilliantly.
Mumbai Indians needed a big Powerplay with the bat and Rohit Sharma got things going with a couple of boundaries, only to be dismissed inside the first over. Tilak Varma came in and played a few fine shots as Ryan Rickelton was kept off strike and eventually he too fell inside the first 5 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was then the one who took the game to the opposition after the Powerplay and having started positively, Varma started to slow down against the off-paced deliveries. He soon perished as the pressure kept on mounting and SKY fell just short of his 50 which was really the last nail in the coffin for MI.
The Titans had a solid total on board on a track that was on the slower side and lacked bounce and then Mohammed Siraj gave them the perfect start by picking up both openers inside the Powerplay. The spinners kept things tight but couldn't get the wickets and Sai Kishore just ended up conceding too many boundaries. It was then a superb spell from Prasidh Krishna in the second half of the chase that got the Titans command of the game and with wickets coming at regular intervals, they managed to suffocate the MI batters.
A sensational bowling display from Gujarat Titans has earned them their first victory of the 2025 IPL as Mumbai Indians' history of a slow start to the season continues. It was pretty comfortable in the end for GT and once again, the team batting first has won the game in this particular fixture which is pretty much against the general norm.

A prolonged appeal for LBW and the finger finally goes up. This is bowled on a good length and around leg by Mohammed Siraj, getting the ball to just move off the pitch. Mitchell Santner comes inside the line to flick but misses and gets hit on the pads. The finger goes but but the review is taken. No bat involved but Ball Tracking shows that the ball pitched outside the line of leg stump. It will be a dot ball and Gujarat Titans win the game by 36 runs!

OUT! CAUGHT! This is turning out to be a match-winning spell from Prasidh Krishna. Prasidh brings out the slower one now, floating it up full and wide outside off. Suryakumar Yadav hangs deep and just has to go after it but loses his shape and ends up slicing it high over mid off. Shubman Gill, back on the field and he comes in from long off to take a safe catch. SLY departs for 48 and that could be the final nail in the MI coffin.

Strategic break! Right then, MI need 85 runs off 36 legal deliveries which means GT are firmly in front at the moment. They have bowled well as a unit but with Suryakumar Yadav well set, if Hardik Pandya could get into his groove as well, then things might change quickly. The next wicket is key for both teams and for MI, one if not both these batters need to bat till the 19th or 20th over. Let's see if GT can keep enough distance between MI and the target.

Oh, good runnning and that's put pressure on the fielders, leading to an additional run. Shortish ball on the pads, tucked away in between square leg and mid-wicket by Varma. Rashid Khan comes charging in from the deep as the batters look for two and misses the ball. Kagiso Rabada behind him also misses the ball and the batters pick up three runs.
Strategic break! This has been a solid bowling display from GT and there doesn't seem to be much or any dew at the moment. MI have again failed to get that positive start with the bat but Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav at two of the most in-form T20 batters of the last year or so and they are building up a good platform from where MI can launch. GT know they need a couple of more wickets as that middle order of MI is inexperienced apart from Hardik Pandya. An interesting phase of play awaits. Sai Kishore now comes into the attack as well.

A loud appeal and given! Tilak Varma though, reviews it in an instant. Was there any bat or glove involved? Rashid Khan bowls it flat and it is the googly, darted across from around middle, Varma sits down to reverse sweep but misses and gets hit on the pads. UltraEdge comes in and we can see that the ball just kissed the bottom part of the glove before it hit the pads. Good review, NOT OUT!
Interesting move as Rashid Khan comes in to bowl the final over of the Powerplay.
