England beat Australia by 3 wickets
Right then, the crowd and viewers all got what they wanted as England do win the third Ashes Test and have now injected new life into the series. All three matches have been close and now it is time for the two sides to take a bit of a breather as there is quite a gap between the 3rd and 4th Test. The 4th Ashes Test will start on July 19, Wednesday and will be played at Old Trafford. A win for Australia will see them clinch their first away Ashes series win since 2001, while a draw will see them keep the Ashes. England must win to level the series and have a chance of reclaiming the Ashes. The first ball will be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT), but as you know you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Ben Stokes, the victorious skipper of England says that it was another down-the-wire game but he is happy that they got over the line this time. Adds that by winning the toss, they could have batted and bowled as the wicket looked good. Tells that Marsh took the game on and the outfield was quick too. Says that Wood and Woakes did well coming back to Test cricket. Mentions that they try to see how they can be influential in the game. Says that he didn't realise that Woakes hasn't played a Test for so long but having a batter like him at number 8 helps a lot. Further adds that Wood is someone who can bowl at 150 clicks and with the bat he is just a free spirit and his 24 off 8 in the first innings was a massive swing in the game. Then says that Ali told them that he wanted to take on the bowlers and that is why he was sent at number 3. Tells that he and Baz try to go with the flow. Mentions that the break is good for both teams as the next game is a crucial one. Ends by saying that they love playing cricket in England for the crowd and the Western Terrace was amazing.
Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia says that there were a few instances in the match where they went back and forth like on the first day where they lost 6 quick wickets. Mentions that each session in this series matters a lot and applauds the spell bowled by Moeen Ali where he got Smith and Labuschagne out. Adds that 250 gave them something to bowl at but it just wasn't enough. On Warner, he says that he was brilliant at Lord's and on Mitchell Marsh, he says that he is very happy for him. Ends by saying that they have a few days to recharge and is looking forward to the Test at Old Trafford.
Mark Wood is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his crucial contributions in all departments. He says that it was worth the wait and he is happy to keep the series alive. Adds that there were sweaty palms when he was sitting in the dressing room. Tells that it was a great performance against some of the best players in the world. Mentions that he doesn't know if this was the quickest he has ever bowled but coming down the hill helped him. Says that Stokes told him to keep it short and sharp and exactly did that. Further adds that there are still a few things to work on, especially against the tail, but he was pleased with his batting performance. Ends by saying that the support is always great everywhere he goes and he hopes to be fit for both upcoming Tests.
The thrill of Test cricket when we get games like this time and again is simply unmatched and we have once again been treated to a humdinger of a game. Right from Day 1, this match swung from one side to the other and the series is alive and kicking. This game was a game which had some brilliant individual performances like Mitchell Marsh's fabulous hundred in the first innings, skipper Pat Cummins's six-wicket haul as well and also the brilliant return to Test cricket from Chris Woakes whose total contribution in the game did matter a lot. But, it was Mark Wood who stood out from the rest as after returning to Test cricket in a pressure match, he bowled a sensational spell in the first innings and picked up five wickets. Then he went on to play handy cameos in both innings to seal the deal for his side. All in all, a great game of cricket, which even though was marred by a lot of rain on Day 3, produced some high-octane action. Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony...
Australia almost won yet another close match but it wasn't meant to be this time around. With only 250 runs to defend, it was a tough ask but they did find a way to get wickets at regular intervals. Mitchell Starc was the chief contributor with a solid five-wicket haul but Pat Cummins bowled pretty well yet again and so did Mitchell Marsh. Scott Boland though had a tough time and young Todd Murphy couldn't do much with the few overs he was given. In the end, they simply didn't have enough runs on the board and their lead is now cut in half.
WHAT A GAME! THE ASHES IS ALIVE! Shades of 2019 as England pull off yet another chase at Headingley and get themselves back in the five-match series as they make it 2-1. England have managed to hold their nerves and get over the line thanks to a brilliant knock of 75 from Harry Brook and some fireworks at the end from Mark Wood. Chris Woakes though a bit of an unsung hero in this game and played a big role as he gave Brook ample support when skipper Ben Stokes got out. The hosts seemed to be in control of the chase but every now and then lost wickets at crucial times and once Brook got out, the chips seemed down but have managed to hang on.

We are back for the second session which probably could be the last session of this Test match. The players are already out in the middle as Harry Brook and Ben Stokes resume are ready to resume the batting for England. Scott Boland to start proceedings with the ball.
... DAY 4, SESSION 2 ...
The openers for England looked solid for the first few overs, but Ben Duckett got trapped in front by Mitchell Starc. Moeen Ali was promoted to number 3 but it didn't work out for the hosts. Then Zak Crawley and Joe Root started scoring freely, but a lazy shot from the former cost him his wicket. Once Harry Brook came in, the boundaries started to flow for England but just as when Root was looking settled, Pat Cummins got him for the third time in a row in this series. Brook continued his attacking display and saw out the rest of the session along with Ben Stokes as they need under a 100 to win now. Australia will want to make early inroads post Lunch to put more pressure on the hosts or else this could go only one way. Join us for the second session at 6.25 pm IST (12.55 pm GMT) to see how things pan out.
SESSION SUMMARY - 126 runs and 4 wickets in 27 overs. It was a bit longer than usual because of all the time lost due to rain on Day 3. However, it wasn't short of any excitement whatsoever. The game still hangs in the balance with both sides throwing everything at each other. The equation is simple, England needs 98 runs and the Aussies need 6 wickets with an ample amount of time left in the Test.

Drinks break! A positive start for England with the bat in this session but Australia have done well to pick up a couple of wickets. The hosts have their noses in front but as we have seen in this match and in the series as well, a couple of wickets can turn the game on its head. Both sides will be eager to go into Lunch on Day 4 with an advantage.

First runs of the Day! Mitchell Starc starts with a full delivery, on off, Zak Crawley pushes it through cover-point for a single.
All in readiness for the play to begin! The umpires are back out in the middle and so are the players of Australia. The English openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett are set to resume their stay on the crease. It will be Mitchell Starc to begin proceedings with the ball on Day 4!
Australia, on the other hand will be disappointed with their batting performance on Day 3, but the wicket was very difficult to bat on with uneven bounce. However, an excellent 77 from Travis Head gave their bowlers something to play with but Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett who nicked it a couple of times survived a tricky five overs to end Day 3. The Aussie pacers will look to use the conditions as well to get the early breakthroughs while the hosts need their batters to step up and get over the line. Todd Murphy could play a big part for the visitors as we may see some turn too on the pitch. We hope that the rain stays away and if that happens, we will get a result. Will the Aussies retain the Ashes? Or will England make a comeback in the series? Stay tuned for all the action on Day 4 in a while.
Even though rain played a big part on the 'Moving Day', the hosts kept their cool and took advantage of the conditions massively. Their pace trio of Stuart Broad, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes were right on the money and restricted the Aussies from setting a huge target. However, they struggled a bit to get rid of Travis Head who scored a lot of runs or else the hosts would have been chasing something under 200.
Hello and a warm welcome folks! We are witnessing another enthralling Test match between two of the biggest rivals. The pendulum has swung in both directions but England are ahead in the game at the moment needing 224 runs to win while the Aussies need a magical spell from someone as we go into Day 4.
... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...
Right then, that is it from a rain-curtailed Day 3 where we saw very little action but it was filled with excitement. England need 224 runs to win with all wickets in hand and they will back themselves unless the rain gods go against them. Aussies will not go down without a fight and we are in for another riveting day of Test cricket. Day 4 of this Test will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT), but you can join us early for the build-up. Cheers!
After waiting for a long, long time, the rain gobbled up more than two sessions of play, but whatever cricket was played it was all England. Chris Woakes started really well by getting rid of Mitchell Marsh and then Mark Wood followed it up with a couple as well. However, they did struggle a bit to get through Travis Head who scored a fighting fifty and helped the Aussies set a decent target. England, though still will be happy with the way things are going and will be confident of chasing this down as both their openers saw out a tricky five overs in the end. Australia will be a bit disappointed with their batting but the wicket helped the bowlers a lot and they will look to take advantage of that when they come out on Day 4.
Well, there were not many overs bowled today but there was indeed a lot of drama! The pitch was totally in favour of the bowlers and England took full advantage of it. The Aussies lost six wickets in about 20 overs of play. They finished their second innings on 224 and set a target of 251 for the hosts. The rain-affected 'Moving Day', belonged to the hosts as they keep their hopes alive of making a comeback in the Ashes.
