"Good to win the first game. Hassan and me, we played natural cricket. We believed in ourselves. What we were thinking was like, we'll go for the chase even at the beginning when we won the toss, so that was the plan. We were thinking to go long, as long as we can, we were never thinking of the game getting this short. You need to be prepared whenever anything happens. In the game of cricket, anything can happen and you need to be prepared for it," said Afghanistan A captain Imran Mir.

"It was a good surface to bat on. During the first innings, our bowlers weren't as good as they should have been. But it was good to bat and we won," he added.

Afghanistan A captain Imran Mir named Player of the Match! He returned bowling figures of 1 for 21 in four overs before scoring 75 not out off 70 balls, with the help of six fours and two sixes.

"Honestly we batted well and 349 was a par score on this pitch. But unfortunately with how DLS works, game reduced to 38 overs but we were still in the game. Unfortunately the rain came down. We got a couple of changes here and there but just short of the fielders. Afghanistan played well but at the same point we were thinking that the game will go till 38 overs. If it had gone till 38 overs game things could have been different," India A captain Tilak Varma said.

"We will go back to the drawing board and come back stronger in the next game. Our goal is to win the next two games and play the final," he added.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has scored 44 and 14 so far in the Tri-nation series. On Thursday, Sooryavanshi score 44 off 22 balls with nine fours. The team would want him to do better in their next match. 

India A have two more games left in the double-round robin stage. They face Sri Lanka on June 15 and Afghanistan on June 17. If they win both their games, they will comfortably reach the final. However, if they lose one or both, the side will have to be dependent on results of other matches.

With the win today, Afghanistan A go top of the table. They are tied on two points with India A, but a better net run rate takes them at the helm. Afghanistan A's NRR is 0.155, while that of India A is 0.053.

The Indian cricket fans must be hoping for the rain to go away. As per the current scenario, the rain continues to halt the game in Dambulla. Afghanistan A are 177 for 2 in 25.5 overs in the revised chase of 294 in 38 overs.

It gets dark in Dambulla and the rain gets heavier. These are not good signs for India A, as they are behind in the game. If no play takes place from this point, Afghanistan A will be declared winners.

The start of Afghanistan's chase has been delayed due to rain. However, the groundstaff are about to remove the covers. The action might resume shortly if the rain holds off.

So, a fiery finish in the final over takes India A to 349/9 in 50 overs against Afghanistan A. The fielder collected the ball and in attempt of making a direct-hit, he ended up throwing it across the boundary line, giving India A four runs for free. "Today, we were looking to bowl first. Unfortunately, we have lost the toss. There's moisture on the wicket, so we wanted to bowl first. 290-300 will be a good score. First 6-7 overs, it'll be helpful for bowling. Let's see how the wicket behaves. We are playing with the same team," said India A skipper Tilak Varma.

The outfield is lush and nice. There was a bit of rain earlier but the sun is out now. Coming to the surface, there's a bit of a greenery, this is pitch no. 6. There'll be some movement and moisture on this surface in the first hour. It's still good for batting. 270-280 will be a good par score.

Afghanistan A skipper Imran Mir wins the toss, opts to bowl against India A in the second match of the Tri-Nation A One-Day series in Dambulla. 

After playing fiery knocks in the IPL, the likes of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prabhsimran Singh failed to deliver in the first game against Sri Lanka A. However, the match against Afghanistan A is not going to be an easy affair either. Both the openers need to smartly avert the threat of the Afghan bowlers, in order to play a dominating innings. The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi, who has always impressed with his performance, will be in focus today as well. 

The match against Sri Lanka A was an eye opener for Indian bowlers as they were hit in the all the corners of park. Though India A won the match after a big twist, bowling was a big concern. With Ayush Badoni coming in as a surprise package, the other bowlers need to step up and deliver economical spells. 

"I think after I got out and after that we had the game (in our hands) again, but unfortunately Wanjua got run out. That's the point I think we lost the match. (You lost two quick wickets, do you think that dented the confidence of you getting out?) Yeah, that also we had a problem in there as well, but after that I think we managed again. I think after that Wanuja got run out, we didn't have a chance. (How was the surface when you batted?) We thought earlier that we'll be getting spin in the evening, but I think when I was batting it didn't, so the wicket is good," said Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige. 

"I felt, you know, the conditions were slightly, not what we are used to be playing at home. So definitely, wind factor as well. So it was important that one of the set batters play throughout the innings and glad that it happened today. (How did you make the adjustment?) Definitely try and rotate strike as much as possible. We had lost three wickets as well. So at any stage, we didn't want a new batter to face the middle overs where it would be challenging for him. So that's what the talk was with Tilak as well. Let's bat as deep as possible," said Ruturaj Gaikwad. 

India A captain Tilak Varma faced severe criticism from the fans for his slow knock against Sri Lanka A. Despite India's win, Tilak was under fire as he played a knock of 60 off 97 balls. This included just two boundaries and one maximum. The skipper would look to redeem himself in the next game against Afghanistan. 

Chasing 278, Sri Lanka A had the game in the bag after captain Sahan Arachchige made a sublime 74 off 72 balls. However, the inexplicable loss of last four wickets in 10 balls, including three in the final over from pacer Arshad Khan, gave India A a narrow win. The seasoned Ruturaj Gaikwad made a composed 101 to lead India A to 277 for six.

The India A captaincy experience does come at a crucial juncture in Tilak Varma's career. With talks of Hardik Pandya's exit from the Mumbai Indians gaining steam, Tilak could be the ideal successor for the franchise. The India A leadership role is bound to help him prepare for a future captaincy role in the IPL. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad might not be the most suitable batter for India in T20 cricket, but in the one-day format, he has shown the quality he brings to the team. With the Indian team management building a side for the 2027 World Cup, Ruturaj has to be in the mix. The question, however, which player does he replace?
