England vs New Zealand, 3rd Test Day 2 Highlights: England bounced back from a precarious state of 55/6 to eventually reach 264/6 by the end of play on Day 2 of the ongoing third Test at Headingley in Leeds. Jonny Bairstow (130 not out) and Jamie Overton (89 not out) stitched an unbeaten partnership of 209 runs on Friday to turn the tide in England's favour. For New Zealand, Trent Boult took three wickets while Neil Wagner bagged two. Earlier, New Zealand started the day by resuming at 225/5 but failed to take advantage of it. While Daryll Mitchell departed on 109 runs on the ball of Jack Leach, his overnight partner Tom Blundell (55) became the victim for Matty Potts. Jack Leach returned figures of 5/100 and Stuart Broad accompanied him with a 3/62. (SCORECARD)

ENG vs NZ 3rd Test, Day 2 Live

  1. !

We are all set to start. Lees and Crawley will start for England. Trent Boult comes to bowl.

  2. !

Now, 329 is not a big score but it is a good one. The wicket is providing some assistance to both, the bowlers and if New Zealand land it on the right areas, it is not going to be easy for England. Saying they, the English batters are in really good form. They would love to continue that. Stay tuned for the reply in a bit.

  3. !

England, will be happy with how they performed with the ball. Yes, they will be disappointed they let the Kiwis off the hook after the start they had but they were really impressive. They made run scoring very tough and also managed to take wickets at regular intervals. Except for the morning session today, their bowlers were very disciplined. Potts and Broad were excellent and Overton too executed the plans given to him. Leach though was the luck with a fifer. He got assistance from the surface and made use of it. The hosts however, will be slightly disappointed with their fielding which was not up to the mark. Had they hung onto their catches, they could have restricted the Kiwis to a lower score. Still though, it was a decent effort from them.

  4. !

The New Zealand innings though was about the one man, Daryl Mitchell. Yes, there were others who did get off to starts but he was the mainstay. Yet another ton for him and he’s the only reason why the visitors are not behind in the game. Had it not been for him, the Kiwis could have been bowled out for well below 250.

  5. !

England have made quick work of the remaining two wickets and kept the Kiwis to well under 350 but New Zealand will be happy with their effort. Especially when you consider the fact that they were reeling at 83 for 4. Had they been given 329 at that time, they would have taken it with both hands. The game however, is quiet even at the moment. Can’t really say which side is ahead.

  6. 117.3
    W
    Jack Leach to Neil Wagner

OUT! CAUGHT! Jack Leach finishes with a five-fer! Leach tosses it up again, full and around middle and off. Wagner heaves it away to deep mid-wicket. Jonny Bairstow was late to react as he runs across from long on but rushes and takes a superb tumbling catch to his left. Just ten deliveries after Lunch for England to bundle the visitors out. New Zealand are all out on 329.

  7. 117.2

    Jack Leach to Neil Wagner

Length and on off. Wagner goes back and blocks it.

  8. !

Trent Boult will be the last batter in.

  9. 117.1
    W
    Jack Leach to Tim Southee

OUT! TAKEN! Leach has another one! Leach tosses it up, full and around off. Southee clears his front leg and tries to go over mid off but fails to make a proper connection and the ball balloons up and Ben Stokes settles himself to take the catch. Southee goes after playing a crucial cameo.

    Matthew Potts to Neil Wagner

Length and outside off, hit straight to mid off.

  11. 116.5

    Matthew Potts to Neil Wagner

FOUR! Beautiful shot from Wagner and he is off the mark! On a length and outside off. Wagner punches off the back foot through mid off. Stokes gives a chase but to no avail as the ball wins the race.

    Matthew Potts to Neil Wagner

This is full and outside off, shaping away. Wagner looks to drive but misses it completely.

Short of a length and around middle. Wagner stays back and punches it again to mid on.

Matthew Potts comes into the attack.

    Jack Leach to Tim Southee

Tossed up, on off. Southee blocks it out on the front foot.

  18. !

We are all set for the second session. England players have made their way out in the middle. Southee and Wagner will start after Lunch. Jack Leach continues to bowl.

  19. !

    … DAY 2, SESSION 2 …

  20. !

Now England’s aim will be to keep the visitors to below 350 and that is well possible with no recognised batters left. The away side will hope the tail can wag and then can get over that mark. Do join us after the break.
