After gaining a slender lead, New Zealand started strongly despite losing Tom Latham cheaply. They appeared to be under control for the early part of their innings, with Will Young and Devon Conway driving them forward. On a batting paradise, the Kiwis were set to take control of this Test and push defeat out of their sight, but the final session of Day 4 took the wind out of their sails. Daryl Mitchell once again emerged as their saviour and along with the tail-enders, he added vital runs to bring the sanity back in the New Zealand camp.
