Budapest:
Riding high on the crest of consistency, Indian IM Tejas Bakre acquired the 8-game GM norm when he defeated IM Adam Horvath of Hungary in the 11th round to top the table with eight points in the First Saturday Chess tournament in Budapest.
Junior World Champion Koneru Humpy drew with second seed Grandmaster Ferenc Berkes (Hungary) and is placed third with 6.5 points while her opponent is in the second place with 7 points.
Playing a solid game, 20-year Asian Junior Champion Tejas, with an ELO rating of 2446, outplayed Hungarian International Master Adam Horvath (ELO 2490) to lead the table after the 11th round to acquire his 8-game GM norm.
Humpy, who is aiming for her third GM norm, will now play Ruben Felgar of Argentina in the penultimate game of the 13-round category-XI tournament.
Humpy's effort to acquire the third GM norm may not be possible in this edition as she has to get a minimum of nine points from 13 games, chess experts here pointed out. (PTI)
