Srivilliputhur:

Tamil Nadu has the world number one chess player and now it also boasts of the world's smallest chessboard.

The smallest hand made chess board in the world has been made from silver and measures just 2.4 cm long.

All from the king to the pawn are miniatures, measuring between 5 mm and 10 mm in height. And the man behind this is a goldsmith from the Srivilliputhur town of Tamil Nadu.

Although a school drop out, the micro chess board has got him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

"I didn't study much still I had a craze to achieve something and after five years of hard work I've got this Guinness award," said Manikandan, Guiness Record Holder.

Designing miniature models has been a passion for Manikandan. Already his working models of a four inch long bike and a two inch high fan have been recognised by the Limca Book of Records.

And now he plans to make the smallest watch in the world. Certainly even small is big for the record books.
