New Delhi:
Punjab discus thrower Harwant Kaur finished 13th in the Athens Olympics and also won a silver medal at the Asian championship in 2002. She was appointed Assistant sub inspector (ASI) under the sports quota. Apparently, officers of the Punjab police also promised her a quick promotion but instead she was demoted to the rank of constable.
Harwant Kaur, National Discus-thrower, said "I am shifting to Australia because I don't even have a job in India and I may represent Australia in international competitions."
She also claims she has not received her salary for the last three months. If she moves to Australia, India hope may well end up wearing Australian colours in the next Olympic and it well be shameful for India.
In two years time India will host the Commonwealth games, already being billed as the greatest ever spectacle the country will witness. Hundreds of crores are being spent on beautifying Delhi, so that the capital will showcase India's best face. But what of the real faces of India -its athletes? does anyone care?.
