07.10 (IST): First medal for India at Asian Games 2014! Indian shooter Shweta Chaudhry wins a bronze in 10m Air Pistol.
On Saturday, 18 gold medals will be at stake. Rather fresh from their Commonwealth Games Glasgow campaign, India will bank on their shooters and weightlifters to win the first medals of the Games. But the competition is expected to be stiffer. Four shooting gold medals will up for grabs while weightlifting have a couple. India will also compete for medals in judo and wushu, but martial arts have never been India's strengths.
Indian lifters brought home as many as 12 medals from Scotland. Seven medallists from the Glasgow Games have made it to the 10-member Indian squad for Incheon, where the event will go on till September 26 with at least two titles to be decided every day. Of the 10 lifters who have made the cut in the Asian Games squad, nine of them were part of the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games.
Saturday's events - women's 48kg and men's 56kg - will see Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu and Sukhen Dey competing in the respective women's and men's categories. Both of them had pocketed gold at the Commonwealth Games.

India's shooting fortunes took a dip after the golden harvest in Glasgow. In the recent world championships in Spain, the Indians were rather off target. India's best bet Abhinav Bindra has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The Beijing Olympic gold medallist will expect to bow out on a high in what will be his last Asian Games.
On Saturday, Indians will compete in the women's 10m air pistol event and the men's 50m pistol. Four gold medals will be up for grabs. India have the potential to be among the medals. Armyman Jitu Rai will be perhaps India's biggest medal hope in the Games. Rai took the silver in the Granada World Championship to gain a direct entry into the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
But Rai will definitely face tough questions from the likes of Chinese world number six and defending champion Pu Qifeng and South Korea's double Olympic champion Jin Jong-oh, who won the gold ahead of Rai in the World Championship. Om Prakash and Omkar Singh will also shoot alongside Rai.
Heena Sidhu's talent will be tested in the women's 10m air pistol event. She drew a blank in Glasgow. All eyes will be on young Malaika Goel, who won silver in the Commonwealth Games. Shweta Chaudhry will complete the troika of ladies on show at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range.
Two veteran shooters will also be on show in the men's trap qualifiers. Mansher Singh and Manavjit Sandhu will be India's biggest hope even as Darius Kynam Chenai will be in action.
India's shooting record in the Asian Games is nothing great. At Guangzhou, India won just one shooting gold through double-trap marksman Ronjan Sodhi. The 2013 Khel Ratna Awardee is missing the games this time.
