Sushil Kumar Moves Delhi High Court Seeking Trial With Narsingh Yadav For Rio Games

Sushil Kumar on Monday moved the Delhi High Court seeking a trial with Narsingh Yadav to secure a berth in the 74kg category wrestling event at the Rio Olympics 2016.
The two-time Olympic medallist is not among the probables for preparatory camp for the Rio Games in August. Sushil has also sought an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the issue.
The 74 kg wrestler also wrote to the sports ministry in the matter. The Wrestling Federation of India, however, put the onus of holding a selection trial to choose between Sushil and Narsingh on the government, saying the WFI alone cannot decide on the "sensitive matter".
As per rules, Narsingh Pancham Yadav has been included in the men's 74kg freestyle division for the camp as he had acquired the berth at the World Championship last year, while Sushil's name does not figure.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday ruled out the government's intervention, saying that the matter is for WFI to decide.
The WFI had sought the Ministry's intervention to resolve the raging furore over whether to give the Olympic ticket to Narsingh, who clinched the quota berth, or hold trials to present double Olympic-medallist Sushil a chance in the 74kg category.
"Government has nothing to do with it. The federation, which is an autonomous body, is the final authority. We stood by the national sports code and respect the autonomy of all sports federations," Sonowal told PTI.
