Somdev reaches career best 73 in singles

India's Somdev Devvarman climbed 11 places to reach his career-best ranking of 73 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings released on Monday.
Somdev had a sensational run in the BNP Paribas ATP Tour 1000 tournament at Indian Wells, where he beat Marcos Baghdatis and Xavier Malisse. He gave a terrific fight to World No.1 Rafael Nadal before losing in the pre-quarterfinals.
India's top woman player Sania Mirza, who with her Russian partner Elena Vesnina won the women's doubles title at the Indian Wells, has risen 21 places in the doubles to be at the 33rd position.
In the singles, Sania is back in the top 100 after gaining eight places and is at 99th place.
In the men's doubles, India's Rohan Bopanna who with Pakistan's Aisma-ul-Haq Qureshi reached the semifinals at Indian Wells, has climbed four places to 15th position.
Veterans Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, who reached the quarterfinals, are unchanged at fifth and seventh positions.
