Rohan Bopanna won his mixed doubles but lost men's doubles match
Title holders Leander Paes and Sania Mirza, both of whom are defending champions with Swiss tennis ace Martina Hingis in their respective categories, progressed to further rounds at Wimbledon in London on Monday.
However, India's highest ranked men's doubles player Rohan Bopanna had a mixed day. While he won his mixed doubles contest, he was ousted from men's doubles competition, partnering Romanian Florin Mergea.
Sixteenth seeds Paes and Hingis had a comfortable 6-4, 6-4 victory over New Zealand-German pairing of Artem Sitak and Laura Siegemund on No.1 Court to advance to the mixed doubles third round where they will take on a yet to be decided opponent.
Women's doubles top seeds Hingis and Mirza, on the other hand, thrashed American-Latvian pairing of Christina McHale and Jelena Ostapenko 6-1, 6-0 on Court 17 to enter the quarter-finals of the lone grass court Major.
Later in the day, mixed doubles 13th seeds Bopanna and Australian Anastasia Rodionova also progressed to the third round with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Filipino-Polish combine of Treat Huey and Alicja Rosolska on Court 12.
The Indo-Australian pair will next take on Colombian combination of Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Mariana Duque-Marino for a place in the quarter-finals.
The only disappointment on Monday with regards to Indian tennis was Bopanna's loss in men's doubles third round with Mergea.
Finnish-Australian 10th seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers had to undergo a marathon match before overcoming Bopanna-Mergea 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(6), 8-6 on Court 14 and advance to the last eight stage.
