Serena started off well and held her serve in all games.
Kerber was not too far behind as she didn't allow Serena to free her arms during her own serves.
However, Serena broke Kerber's serve in the 12th game to take the first set 7-5.
Serena maintained the momentum in the second set and left Kerber with a few options.
Kerber tried her best but could not break Serena's serve.
Serena was in no mood to relent and wrote herself into the history books by winning the second set 6-3.
Serena finally ended her losing run at Slams stretching back to Wimbledon last year.
14 years since she first won Wimbledon, Serena claimed the title for the 7th time time after dropping just one set throughout the tournament.
With this win, Serena also equalled Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slam singles titles.
