Davis Cup: Yuki hopes Leander and Sanam to clinch tie against Indonesia

Bangalore:

Yuki Bhambri is expecting that Leander Paes and Sanam Singh will do well in the doubles rubber as India look for a decisive 3-0 lead against Indonesia in the Asia Ocenia Group I tie at the KSLTA in Bangalore on Saturday.

"I am expecting my team do well in tomorrow's doubles match. We have a good team," he told reporters in the post-match press conference on Friday.

India's non-playing captain SP Misra said he was happy with Yuki's performance, beating No 1 Indonesian player with confidence.

"Leander and Sanam are good players but we have not seen Indonesians play doubles. We will see what happens tomorrow," Misra said when asked about tomorrow's match.

Talking about the first match, Somdev Devvarman said he served well against Wisnu Adi Nugroho, but it was a tough game as he played him for the first time.

"I adjusted to his style of play before studying his movements initially and came through by dominating him," he said.

In the second set, Wisnu tried to play an attacking game, but could not make any inroads to topple India, Somdev said.

"We have two more matches to go. I am confident of doing well," he said.

Asked about his shoulder injury, Somdev who was out of action for sometime last year, said he worked a lot in the US for his recovery.

"I am grateful to my coach for working on my consistency of serving and backhand shots," he said.

Talking about his second singles against Yuki, Christopher Rungkat said he was confident of taking on Yuki and had lot of chances, but he showed better resolve to win the match.

"His performance was good and entirely dominated the match," he said.

However, Christopher said he played a defensive game compared to his rival. "Yuki was returning well and hardly I could do anything about it, he said.

Christopher said his shoulder injury did not affect him in this match as he had already recovered and played well reaching into the semi-final of a USD 10,000 event in Vietnam last week.

However, Indonesian number one player said his serve in today's match was not effective, that happens at some occasions.

"We had planned for 1-1 at the end of day 1 but went down 2-0 giving India the needed momentum," he said.

Non-playing captain Hendri Susilo Pramono said Yuki poured water over Indonesia's dream to be level 1-1 with India at the end of the day's play.
