New York : Former world number four James Blake, Australian Carsten Ball and France's Guillaume Rufin were among seven men given wild-card entries into the US Open on Tuesday by the US Tennis Association.

Blake has won 10 ATP titles and peaked at fourth in the rankings in 2006 but has plunged to 107th in the wake of a knee injury. The 30-year-old American was fourth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and twice reached the US Open's last eight.

Ball, 23, is ranked 145th after reaching a career-high 108th last month. He reached last year's ATP Los Angeles final and joined countryman Chris Guccione to reach last year's US Open men's doubles quarter-finals.

Rufin, ranked 207th, will make his US Open debut. The 20-year-old from Charnay qualified for the Australian Open this year and reached the round of 16 in the 2008 US Open junior tournament.

Others receiving wild cards included Americans Ryan Sweeting, Donald Young, Jack Sock and Bradley Klahn. An eighth wild card will go to the winner of a playoff event in Florida that begins Wednesday.

The US Open, the year's last Grand Slam event, begins August 30 at New York.
