England football legend Jack Charlton to run Olympic torch relay
England's football legend Jack Charlton, elder brother of Sir Bobby Charlton, will carry the Olympic flame in the centre of Newcastle on day 28 of the torch relay.

England's football legend Jack Charlton, elder brother of Sir Bobby Charlton, will carry the Olympic flame in the centre of Newcastle on day 28 of the torch relay.
The 1966 World Cup winner, 77, is one of 141 torchbearers on the leg starting from Alnwick. Charlton is scheduled to carry the flame Friday at 5.40 p.m. after which it will do a lap of the pitch at Newcastle FC's ground Sports Direct Arena, an Olympic football venue, Xinhua reported.
The Olympic flame arrived in Britain from Greece May 18 and the relay began at Land's End, Cornwall, the next day.
A total of 8,000 people will carry the flame during its 8,000-mile, 70-day journey to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London July 27.
