After Suresh Kalmadi stepped down, for the first time, there was a contest for the President's post in the Indian Olympic Association. Randhir Singh and Abhay Singh Chautala were in the running.
A lot has transpired since then, with the top officials having been elected unopposed, even before the poll date of 5th December.
Lalit Bhanot's controversial return to the IOA, as its new Secretary General made headlines across the country, and mudslinging has been the hallmark of these elections.
"If India get banned, Randhir Singh will be the one to blame for it," Chautala said.
But the International Olympic Committee is not amused at all. It has threatened to de-recognise the Indian Olympic Association if the Olympic Charter isn't followed.
The Executive Board meeting of the IOC starts in Lausanne today.
"They aren't worried about India's athletes, India's image... if India is banned it will be shameful," Randhir Singh.
As a last ditch attempt, the IOA has decided to send a 2-member delegation comprising Hockey India Secretary General Narinder Batra and lawyer RK Anand to speak with IOC officials. But there's no confirmation of the meeting from the IOC's end.
