In his first Olympic Games, Atanu Das has held his nerves on the big points. The 24-year-old from Kolkata has shown good form en route to the Rio Olympics pre-quarterfinals. On Friday, he will face a tough challenge when he lines up against South Korean world No. 8 Lee Seung-Yun.
Atanu Das' individual recurve match starts at 5:30 PM IST. If he makes it to the quarterfinals, he will be back on court at 11:30 PM. The medal rounds will take place past midnight.
Das finished fifth in the ranking rounds with a career-best score of 683. He defeated Nepal's Jitbahadur Muktan 6-0 and Cuba's Andres Perez 6-4 to make the pre-quarters. The second win showed Das' mental toughness.
Although Seung-Yun has a lot of reputation behind him, he finished 12 in the ranking rounds with a score of 676. The Korean's career-best is a 693. He has already won the team gold in Rio Olympics 2016.
If Das can produce the form he showed against Muktan - he shot three successive 10s - then he could upset the fancied 21-year-old Seung-Yun.
