Sachin Tendulkar, music maestro AR Rahman and India's lone individual Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra have been approached by Indian Olympic Association to become goodwill ambassadors of Indian contingent for 2016 Rio Olympics.

This comes after superstar Salman Khan's appointment as goodwill ambassador created furore, with top athletes like Milkha Singh and Yogeshwar Dutt criticising the move.

IOA sources told NDTV that the personalities approached are yet to respond.

Ace shooter Bindra said IOA tried to get in touch with him, but he was busy training. He added that he would react only after seeing the details of the proposal.

"We are in communication with Sachin Tendulkar and AR Rahman to become brand ambassadors of the Indian Olympic contingent. We are yet to get their reply," said Indian Olympic Association (IOA) vice president Tarlochan Singh.

"We will rope in more people. Salman Khan will also remain," he added.
