Indian eves on Thursday defeated Italy 1-0 in the ongoing qualifiers at the National Stadium here to set up a final against South Africa.
With the match being played in the middle-half of the pitch for most parts, a breakthrough eluded both teams despite numerous chances. The battle swung from one half of the pitch to the other but the mid-fielders ensured that the transitions from defense to attack came to a naught. India however managed to dominate the possession (59-41 approximately)
It was only in the 52nd minute that the hosts managed to carve a slender lead when a penalty corner was converted by Ritu Rani. Italy responded and earned three penalty corners in the ensuing minutes but failed to crack the defense.
The hosts now play South Africa in the final match.
