India's Jasprit Bumrah arguably produced his finest performance in a Test match in India as the team took on England in the second Test of the 5-match series. Bumrah's heroics with the ball earned him the Player of the Match award as well as praises from the entire cricketing fraternity. Courtesy of his 9 wickets in the match, Bumrah also rose to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings for a bowler. Even England pacer Chris Woakes had the biggest of praise for Bumrah, seeing the India star wreak havoc with the ball in tricky conditions.
Bumrah bagged 6 wickets in the first innings and 3 in the second as India defeated England by 106 runs to level the 5-match series 1-1. Woakes had nothing but praise for Bumrah after the match.
"In the last Test match, Jasprit Bumrah was the standout player, he is a world-class player. Across all the formats, he is one of the best if not the best at the moment. It's great to see fast bowling executed well especially in this condition," Chris Woakes told ANI.
"When you're going to play India, obviously India will be the favourites. Team England knows what they need to do to compete and they will see where the series is now, 1-1. The next match will be very important as it is the middle game of the series," he added.
England had taken a 1-0 lead in the series by beating India by 28 runs in the first Test at Hyderabad, but Bumrah's 'Boomball', his pin-point yorkers and his ability to put batters under pressure put England's highly-attacking, positive and result-oriented "Bazball" approach in check during the second Test at Visakhapatnam, which India won by 106 runs.
After the match, Bumrah soon toppled Ashwin to become the world's number-one Test bowler.
