Perthshire:

Indian golfers made disappointing starts with only Shiv Kapur managing to avoid an over-par card in the fog-delayed opening round of the Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles.

With the event not beginning till two hours and 40 minutes later than the original start, the first round was not completed.

Kapur shot an even par 72 and Gaganjeet Bhullar had a three-over 75, making it tough for him to make the cut, which comes after the second round.

Kapur was lying 65th and Bhullar was 121st.

Jeev Milkha Singh, who is trying to get into the top-60 of the European Tour to qualify for the season-ending Race to Dubai, was one-over through 13 holes and will need to come back to complete the second stretch.

Kapur overcame a tough bogey-bogey start on the 10th with birdie-hat-trick from first to third on the second nine to finish at 72.

Bhullar, who made the field on the strength of his top-10 finish at Czech Open last week, had a tough time at the finish.

He was one-under through 13 holes, but four bogeys in the last five holes, including three in last three, saw him go to three-over. Jeev had two birdies, a double bogey and a bogey in his 13 holes.

Mark Foster opened with a round of 66 to take the lead, and was followed by Ignacio Garrido of Spain and Tano Goya of Argentina, who had 67s each. Peter Lawrie, Thomas Bjorn and Felipe Aguilar were all at 68.

Fog was not the only problem as wasps and bees also struck the course and disturbed the players and at one stage Foster struck a birdie putt with a wasp sitting on the ball.
