Phil Mickelson became the oldest major winner in golf history, the 50-year-old left-hander capturing the PGA Championship by two strokes for his sixth and most iconic major title.

Justin Thomas, who began the day four shots off the lead, fired a five-under par 65 final round to thwart Brooks Koepka's repeat bid and take the title at TPC Southwind.

Rory McIlroy finished the tournament on 18 under, four shots clear of Xander Schauffele, who posted a closing 70 to finish on 14 under.

Frenchwoman Corine Remande, 49, said she was taking legal action against the event's organisers after being hit by a tee shot.
