London:
Woods announced on Friday on his Web site that he was taking an indefinite break from golf following two weeks of allegations of extramarital affairs.
Montgomerie, the European Ryder Cup captain, says "there is a mystique which has been lost now and let's hope that golf isn't damaged by that."
The 46-year-old Scot added: "There are cracks" that "give us more opportunity to find ways of actually winning these events now."
Since turning professional in 1996, Woods has dominated the sport by winning 14 major tournaments and 70 PGA Tour events.
