Arjun Atwal courted disaster on the back nine, dropping three shots inside three holes to finish tied 16th spot at the Crowne Plaza Invitational golf tournament.
Atwal, then at seven-under, dropped double bogey on par-3 13th hole and a bogey on 15th to come down to four-under at the Colonial Country Club and spoilt his chances of his first top-10 finish of the season.
David Toms, who shot 62-62 in first two rounds turned the clock back and won his first title in five years. He made up for the play-off loss last week.
After blowing away a midway seven-shot lead, Toms, 44, shot a three-under 67 yesterday to win at Hogan's Alley.
Toms regained the lead for good from overnight leader Charlie Wi of Korea with an eagle off a wedge shot from 83 yards at the par-5 11th hole, and finished 15-under. He ended a shot ahead of second placed Wi.
It was Toms' 13th career victory and came a week after a playoff loss to K J Choi at The Players Championship, when he missed a short par putt on the extra hole for his sixth runner-up finish since last winning in January 2006 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
