Shanghai:

Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo's qualifying performance at the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday was summed up by a Formula One rival in just two words: "Ricciardo, wow."

The rival was Jenson Button of McLaren, who made the succinct comment after being told the order of the top 10 qualifiers over his radio.

Ricciardo ended up qualifying in seventh place, only one spot off his career best and ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Button, Mark Webber and other leading lights.

The Australian says "this result will boost everyone's spirits and mine as well, and I really can't wait for the lights to go out tomorrow."
