A day after Michel Schumacher's friend was quoted as saying that he is out of danger, the veteran F1 racer's family has lashed out saying that he is still critical.
Schumacher has been in a state of induced coma since meeting with a skiing accident last Sunday. Former F1 driver and Schumacher's friend - Philippe Strieff had brought some cheer to the well-wishers when he revealed that the doctors had told him there wasn't any danger to the German's life. "He (Gerard Saillant, surgeon at the Grenoble University Hospital) said it is a serious condition but his life is not in danger anymore, thankfully. He is such a healthy man. He's 45, he's young and has always been very fit. He is in top shape physically so there are no reasons why he would not make it," Strieff was quoted as saying. (Read full report)
Schumacher's management team though has clarified that the 45-year-old remains critical. According to a report in skysports.com, Schumacher's agent told reporters that only updates from doctors or those from the former racer's management team, should be considered authentic. "Michael's condition remains critical but stable. We would like to clearly stress that any information regarding Michael's health not coming from the doctors treating him or from his management must be treated as invalid and pure speculation," Sabine Khem was quoted as saying.
The seven-time F1 champion who retired for the second time at the end of the 2013 season, was in the French Alps when he met with the unfortunate skiing accident. He hit his head on a rock, shattering his protective helmet into two. While he was rushed to the hospital and has received surgery, Schumacher continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit.
Fans and family have been camping at the Grenoble Hospital and Khem told reporters that privacy of the Schumacher's must be respected. "The family cares only for Michael's health."
