Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be unavailable for between two and three weeks due to a knee ligament injury, manager Alex Ferguson revealed on Wednesday.
Rooney was not included in the squad for United's 4-3 win at home to Newcastle United at Old Trafford, which gave his side a seven-point lead over defending champions Manchester City in the Premier League.
United were also without striker Danny Welbeck, reportedly due to illness, and Ferguson said: "Rooney has done a ligament at the back of his knee and he will be out for two or three weeks. We are running out of ammunition."
