Rio de Janeiro:

Vasco de Gama drew 1-1 at home against Gremio in the Brazilian Championship on Saturday. After a quiet start to the match, Hugo had the first chance for Gremio in the 16th minute, his free-kick saved by Vasco goalkeeper Cassio.Hugo tested Cassio again just after the half hour, and again the ball was beaten away, the goalkeeper a little fortunate to be able to collect the rebound. But then a terrible throw out of defence returned possession to Gremio.Hugo set up George Lucas, whose long range shot flew into the Vasco net for one nil.The home side almost equalised three minutes later, as Ygor's powerful shot hit the crossbar with Gremio goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe well beaten.Vasco got their leveller five minutes before half-time though, with a trademark free-kick from Andrade. The second half was a disappointment, with both teams seemingly happy to settle for a draw.Tcheco's 73rd minute corner was flicked on, but Hugo couldn't get enough of a touch from close range.Hugo made a strong run down the left wing a minute later, but couldn't pick out a teammate with his cross.Gremio had one more chance in the final minute, substitute Rafinha's cross found Hugo, who set up Ricardinho to shoot wide.
