Switzerland moved into the last 16 of the World Cup with a controlled 2-0 win against Algeria. The effervescent Johan Manzambi created the first Swiss goal, surging down the left wing before crossing for Breel Embolo to tap in and Dan Ndoye slotted in the second. The Swiss face the winners of the tie between Colombia and Ghana.

Switzerland have done it! A 2-0 win over Algeria and they are through to the Round of 16. It was a great show from Swiss who will face either Colombia or Ghana in the next round.

Switzerland made two changes as Embolo and Zakaria are both done for the night. It looks like the game is done and dusted with Switzerland now preparing for their Round of 16 clash.

Fabian Riede with probably the chance of the match but he missed it. The cross from Embolo was misjudged by Zidane and Riede had the entire goal at his mercy. However, his shot was too weak and the goalkeeper end up saving it!

A perfect chance for Fabian Rieder to make it 3-0 but his powerful shot was blocked at the right time by Algerian defence. It looks like game over for now!

It is almost time for the second half hydration break and it feels like time is running out for Algeria. They have looked good in some attacks but the final pass is still missing.

Earlier in the day, Goncalo Ramos scored a late winner as Portugal came from behind to beat Croatia 2-1 in a match decided only in stoppage time here at Toronto Stadium. After Ivan Perisic gave Croatia the lead shortly after the break, Portugal responded with a penalty converted by Cristiano Ronaldo and Goncalo Ramos then rose highest to send a Rafael Leao cross home in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure the win. Ronaldo's goal was first in the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup. At 41, he is the oldest player to net at that stage, outranking fellow Portugal icon Pepe.

Algeria are not finding it easy to turn defence into attack and Switzerland are doing them any favours. It has been a tight midfield battle with Switzerland holding rank against Algerian players who are looking to make darting runs down the flanks. However, no success as of now for Algeria.

The perfect start to the second half for Switzerland and it is Dan Ndoye with a brilliant finish. Algeria had two chances to clear the ball but they failed twice. The ball fell to Ndoye who produced the perfect finish to double their lead.

It is time for the second half and Algeria need to start strong. Switzerland looked in control for most parts of the first half but Algeria did show a lot of fight towards the end.

It is half-time and Switzerland lead 1-0 against Algeria. Switzerland will not be happy with just one goal but Algeria showed a lot of fight towards the end of the first half and they will need to keep this momentum going in the rest of the match as well.

An opportunity late in the first half for Algeria and Ibrahim Maza will not be happy with his attempt. The shot was not close to the goal and Switzerland had a big escape!

An intricate movement from Algeria resulted in Riyad Mahrez coming up with a brilliant pass inside the Switzerland box. However, Houssem Aouar was not able to reach it in time and a big opportunity is wasted!

Another chance for Embolo to double the lead but a last-ditch tackle by the Algeria defender saved the day. This has been a brilliant attacking show from Switzerland and they will be disappointed at not scoring more goals in this first half.

What a move from  Ruben Vargas and he will be very disappointed that nothing came out of it. The Switzerland attacker dribbled past 3 defenders and tried to get his shot away. However, he was blocked at the very last moment and Algeria cleared the ball before any danger.

Since scoring the goal, it has been all Switzerland. Algeria seem to be sitting back in order to not provide any spaces to the Swiss attackers, but there is hardly any offensive play from their side. On the other hand, Switzerland are looking to use the flanks in order to come up with the crosses.

Johan Manzambi once again with a brilliant run but this time, his pass was not converted into a goal. Denis Zakaria's touch was not great as the Algeria goalkeeper collected it safely.

Breel Embolo scores and Switzerland are 1-0 ahead! What a start and it was all thanks to brilliant work by Johan Manzambi. Manzambi received the ball outside the box and made a darting run. A smart pass into the box and Embolo just had to tap it in!

What a miss from Algeria! A dangerous cross into the box and Houssem Aouar was in a brilliant position to score the opener. However, his touch was not good and he ended up making a mess of the opportunity.

Both teams are known for their possession heavy football and it is quite clear from the opening minutes of this game. Not many long crosses as both sides are looking to control the midfield and that is the battle which will most probably decide the fate of this contest.

The first half begins and Algeria start on a cautious note. They tried to keep the ball with themselves but a wayward pass resulted in a throw.

The two team are out in the middle and it is time for the national teams. Both teams will be looking to start the match on a positive note and while Switzerland start as clear favourites, Algeria will certainly be no pushover.

The winners of this Round of 32 game will face either Colombia or Ghana in the Round of 16 on July 7.

The two nations have never played a competitive fixture before, but there have been two previous friendlies between them – both played in the 1980s and both won by Switzerland.

Switzerland look to reach the Round of 16 stage for the fourth consecutive time while Algeria have never won a knockout match. It can be a massive occasion for Algeria if they can clinch the win!
