Kevin Kuranyi, Ebbe Sand and Lincoln scored second-half goals on Thursday to lead Schalke to a 3-0 win over Espanyol. With this win, Schalke also entered the last 16 of the UEFA Cup. With the advantage of a 2-1 lead from the first leg in Germany, Schalke relied on counterattacks at Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium and Kuranyi almost scored after a strong run midway through the first half. The German striker had better luck when he opened the scoring with a downward header in the 54th minute on Rafinha's cross from the right. The goal appeared to discourage the Spanish team and substitute Sand steered the ball home from Kuranyi's pass 16 minutes later. Lincoln added the third goal from a free kick in the 73rd. Schalke will meet Palermo in the next round. (AP)
