Santos signs Brazilian defender Kleber

Defending Brazilian champion Santos on Friday signed Brazilian defender Kleber on a one-year loan from Swiss champion FC Basel.

Defending Brazilian champion Santos on Friday signed Brazilian defender Kleber on a one-year loan from Swiss champion FC Basel. The 25-year-old left back was introduced to fans and local media at Santos' Vila Belmiro stadium on Friday, the club said on its website. Kleber, who has been summoned to Brazil's national team in the past, helped Corinthians win national titles in 1998 and 1999. He also had previously played for Germany's Hannover. The defender is expected to make his debut with Santos on Wednesday against Atletico Paranaense in the Brazilian championship. Santos leads the national league with 42 points from 23 matches. (AP)
