Belgrano:

River Plate travelled to Cordoba on Sunday to take on Atletico Belgrano in the Argentine Apertura. River came into the game in second place, two points behind leaders Boca Juniors and hoping to make up ground on their bitter city rivals. And it all looked to be going to plan for Daniel Passarella's side when they were awarded a penalty in the 25th minute, after Juan Jose Serrizuela fouled Radamel Falcao Garcia in the area. Former Argentina midfielder Marcello Gallardo stepped up, and converted from the spot. Just over ten minutes later, River were given a further boost when Belgrano were reduced to ten men. The hapless Serrizuela, who had earlier given away the penalty, was shown a second yellow card for a clumsy foul on Victor Zapata. River had opportunities to add to their lead - the best of them falling to Gonzalo Higuain. Higuain and River were left to rue their misses, though, as Belgrano snatched an equaliser with just three minutes remaining. Ezequiel Arriola was the home side's hero. One-one was the final score. A furious Daniel Passarella refused to speak to the media after watching his team succumb to a late equaliser for the second week running. River stay second, but are now four points behind leaders Boca, and have played a game more. Boca and River meet next Sunday in the 'Superclasico'. Belgrano are 11th. (AP)
