Electric play from start to finish
The contrasting styles really made the match a spectacle, and the two groups of players were definitely up to the challenge and showed the world why they're the ones leading their group ahead of Poland and Colombia with some electric play from both sides. It really was attack after attack from one side to the other, in a truly thrilling game from Group H.
90'
Catching my breath from that one!
What a game from start to finish! Both teams played an extremely open and entertaining match, and the points end shared between the two sides! I think both teams will think they had chances to win the match, but a draw is a fair result here in Ekaterinburg.

A good long ball into the box is brought across by Haraguchi, and then headed towards goal by Osako – collected easily by Ndiaye.

45'
Second half on the way
The teams are back on the pitch now as we await the whistle for the second half to begin. Here's to hoping it'll be as exciting as the first!
45'
A World Cup chess match
Both teams are playing to their strengths, and it's led to quite the clash so far. The Senegalese are using their pace and strength to try to attack the Japanese head on, opting for a more direct approach and quick attacks up either wing - their most deadly attacks have either been crosses or long balls into forwards sprinting behind. Japan, on the other hand, are using their quick passing and excellent positioning to try to make the Senegalese defenders chase the ball in defense. We'll see which approach prevails in the end!
45'
Half time analysis
A superb attacking game so far, as neither side was content to sit back and defend their own goal and preferred to take the game to their opposition. Senegal started the half in the driver's seat and grabbed the opening goal through a keeper error, but Japan bounced right back and their response came 23 minutes later, with some scintillating play the ended in a curled effort from Inui.
45'
Half time!
The first half ends and the score is tied 1-1! What a thrilling half of football that was.
45'
One minute added
Only one minute added to the end of this half
45'
Free Kick Senegal
Foul by Sakai on Mane leads to a Senegalese free kick in a good position for the cross.
40'
Japanese passing on point
When Japan have the ball, they move the ball quickly and with purpose – their passing to this point has been exquisite, and the player on the ball always seems to have at least a couple of option for a quick outlet.
39'
Good chance for Senegal!
Good chance for the Senegalese! The African side are so quick to turn defense into attack, and a quick through ball finds Niang 1v1 with the Japanese keeper. His effort is saved however, and no Senegalese player is unable to get to the rebound.
37'
End-to-end stuff!
It's been an excellent first half from the leaders of Group H so far! Open play on both sides and the two contrasting styles have created a thrilling game.
34'
Japan equalize in style!
FANTASTIC PLAY FROM JAPAN! A long ball from defense finds Nagatomo on the left side – his control is a bit loose but he's able to get back to it before dropping it off to Inui. Inui then curls a beautiful effort between two defenders and into the bottom right corner of the net!

33'
GOAL FOR JAPAN!
WHAT A GOAL FOR JAPAN! TIE GAME!
30'
Fast-paced game so far
This game has started with an incredible pace, with both teams looking to attack. The Senegalese are much stronger than the Japanese but the Asian side are doing well to circulate the ball and minimize the Senegalese opportunities to tackle the ball away from them.
27'
Mane looking good
Mane makes two good touches on the right side to bring down a high ball, before his attempted cross is blocked behind for a corner.
22'

Japan getting into the game
Better from the Japanese! Kagawa starts the move with an excellent pass out to the left wing, where a couple of passes leads to a dangerous cross into the box and eventually a shot from long, before the ball is eventually cleared by Senegal.
15'
Why fix what isn't broken?
Senegal continue their attacking approach along the right side, where they seem to be finding all the joy in the world. Japan are so pinched back that their 10, Shinji Kagawa, is back defending.
12'
Keeper error leads to a Senegalese goal!
A poor clearance allows the ball to fall to Sabaly on the left side of the box. Sabaly unleashes a shot on goal that the Japanese keeper blocks, but right into the knee of Sane! The balls ricochets directly into the back of the net, and Senegal take the lead after controlling these first 15 minutes.

Starting on the right foot
Few people would have predicted that Japan and Senegal would be leading their group after the first match-day, but both teams won their opening games 2-1 and this match promises to be thrilling – there still hasn't been a single scoreless draw in this tournament, and I can't see this game being the first.
