Adios!
What a season opener we have had in the 2018-19 edition of the Indian Super League. A perfect start for the Manjapadas as they go on top of the table for now. Tomorrow, the finalist of the 2017-18 edition, Bengaluru FC will lock horns with the defending champions, Chennaiyin FC in the former's den. That match too will begin at 1930 IST. Till then enjoy your weekend. Cheers!

Kerala win in Kolkata!
Two goals in the last quarter have won it for Kerala Blasters FC. They have never done it before at the Salt Lake stadium but will go home as a happy bunch. Just the second time they have got the better of ATK in 11 attempts. They dominated the first 45 but didn't have goals to prove. They created chances in the second as well and this time Matej Poplatnik and Slavisla Stojanovic curler goal gave them all 3 points. ATK had their say in the first half but never got on top of their game in the second.

GOAL!
Top draw from Slavisla Stojanovic! Narzary plays a long ball to the feet of Stojanovic. He takes a touch, brings the ball down, cuts in and curls in a beauty to clean the cobwebs at the top right corner. No keeper would have saved that. 2-0, Kerala Blasters!

Chance!
Pekuson looks to drill one from the right side. He looks up and takes a low drive. Arindam dives full length to his right and makes a stop. The ball goes to Khongjee who looks to back pass it back to his keeper. A very poor execution as it is intercepted by Matej who eventually loses possession.
79'
Final change
Former East Bengal's skipper, Cavin Lobo is called on to replace Jayesh Rane.

GOAALLLLLLL!!!!
We have our first goal of the India Super League 2018-19. And Matej Poplatnik goes up in the history books. Stojanovic gets the ball just outside the box, makes room for himself and drills in a low shot with his left foot. Gerson Vieira sticks out his foot and the ball deflects to Poplatnik. The striker heads the ball in the corner of the goal to take his team ahead. If there was one team that was looking like scoring, it was Kerala.

Double change
ATK bring on Eugeneson Lyngdoh and Kalu Uche for El Maimouni Noussair and Balwant Singh respectively. Lyngdoh was injured the entire last season while Uche was brought just before the start of the new season. Both will want to make a mark.

The tourists make another change to their mix. The experienced CK Vineeth comes in for Seiminlen Doungel. Can he provide the breakthrough?

69'
Up and over
A free kick from Poplatnik on the right meets Sandesh Jhingan at the far post. The skipper hares to the ball but heads it over the goal.
67'
Driven wide
Pekuson receives the ball on the right and keeps it in control. He drops his shoulders, creates an angle but fires it with his left boot far of the near post.
61'
Wayward
Another wayward effort and a chance wasted by Kerala. They win the ball from the back and move forward quickly. Doungel then from 25 yards out on the right tries to go for glory but hits it to the stands.
57'
Easy
ATK play a couple of passes and try to look for that decisive moment. Pronay then rolls the ball to Noussair who hits it with no venom straight to Dheeraj Singh.
51'
Overcooked cross
Doungel from the right tries to put in a ball first time but has too much on it. The ball goes past the keeper and over the goal post for a goal kick.
47'
Mishit...
Just like the first half, another opportunity created by the team in yellow which is not converted. Stojanovic plays a through ball on the right which goes through to Doungel. The striker has enough time but miss hits his shot straight to the keeper.
46'
Second half
We are back for the second half of the opening fixture. Kerala make a first change to their XI. Courage Pekuson who never missed a single game last year is come on for Sahal Abdul Samad.

Kerala dominate but fail to convert
One would say that David James would be the happier of the managers at the end of the break. They have dominated the half but have failed to convert their chances. Matej has had few chances but has not made the most of it. Lalrutthara has been impressive with his crosses down that left side and Samad looking good in the centre. However, when on top they have to make the most of it or else they might end up on the losing it. ATK didn't have a bright start offensively. Their back four has been solid along with their keeper. They didn't have as many chances at their opposition but Jayesh Rane should have put them ahead. For now, it's still 0-0.
45'
Half time!
The ref blows his whistle to signal the end of the first half. Still no teams have broken the deadlocks.
45'
Added time
We will have 1 added minute before the first half ends.
42'
Header saved!
Samad finds Poplatnik with a loopy ball at the edge of the box. The striker looks to head it past the goalie who had come ahead but does not generate enough power to do so.
39'
Has to do better...
That should have been 1-0 to the home team. Noussair puts in a good ball at the far post from the left corner. It evades everyone and falls to Jayesh Rane. The Mumbai boy has a free header, who back pedals but cannot direct the ball to the empty goal. What a chance. He knows he has missed a good opportunity to put his team ahead.
36'
1-2 from ATK
Nice little give and go from the hosts. Pronay Halder gives the ball to Balwant who has his back to goal. He holds the defender and cushions a lay off for Pronay. Halder takes a shot from his laces but hits it at Dheeraj. The prodigy fails to keep hold of the ball but gathers it later on.
33'
Save!
Sahal Abdul Samad takes a couple of steps to the right and fires the ball in the bottom right corner from around 20 yards out. Arindam moves quickly and makes a good save.
26'
Just over...
A lovely long ball from Lanzarote to Jayesh Rane who chests the ball for Everton Santos. The former Mumbai lad takes a shot but fires it just over the goal.
23'
Chance, chance, chance!
Jhingan spots the run of Matej and puts in a long ball from the back. The latter takes a first touch and is through on goal. He looks to create an angle for himself but loses the ball in the process. The away team should have been 3 goals on top by now.
20'
Yellow!
That's the first booking of the Indian Super League. ATK getting frustrated and showing other ways to play football. Matej running away with the ball and Noussair catches his jersey from the back and pulls him down. The ref took no time in reaching to his pocket.

19'
Another chance
Kerala are dictating terms in this game and are already proving a point. Lalruatthara from outside the box puts in a good ball to the far post on the head of Doungel. The striker should have done better from that position as he heads it wide.
15'
Direct corner!
What a try from Manuel Lanzarote. He takes the corner from the left and almost catches Dheeraj off guard. Curls in a direct corner towards the goal. Singh punches it out which deflects off the crossbar and goes out of danger.
12'
What a save!
A corner from the left meets the head of Pesic in the middle. He looks to guide it to the far corner but Sena Ralte at the left post heads it out.
9'
Kerala at in once again!
Once again things happening from the left. Lalruatthara making darting runs down the left side. This time puts in a low drive at the edge of the box. Matej hits it first time but the former Bengaluru man, John Johnson blocks it out.
6'
Good move
Sahal Abdul Samad from the center of the pitch puts in a good aerial ball up front and finds Poplatnik again. The striker didn't have the best of first touches which enabled ATK to clear their lines.
3'
First chance!
And what a chance it was! Balwant gets it wrong down the left flank. Lalruatthara wins it and puts in a good teasing ball to the center. Matej Poplatnik leaps towards the ball but just heads it wide of the far post.
1'
Let's football!
Kerala get us underway in their all yellow kit passing the ball back. ATK in their red and white stripes jersey will chase the game for now.
Toss
ATK win the toss and will play from left to right in this half.

The players make their way out of the tunnel for the Indian National Anthem. We are moments away now.

Can Steve Coppell resurrect the fallen ATK side?
Who knew that the team that dominated the first 3 seasons of the ISL would be laying at the bottom half of the table of the years to come? Steve Coppell comes in with the pedigree of guiding Kerala Blasters in his first ISL season to the final while missing qualification on the last day of the league stages in 2017-18. Coppell's defensive record with Jamshedpur last year was eye-catching. ATK will hope he brings in similar tactics to the Kolkata based club. The department which ATK lacked in was attack and they have brought in two of the proven strikers of the league in Lanzarote and Uche. Let's wait and watch how this pans out. Line-ups in a while.
The thing that matters - Kerala Blasters!
ATK and Kerala have met 10 times in the ISL but the latter have managed to win just 1 of those games, their least against any side that is playing in the ISL since season 1. The only game which Kerala won against ATK came back in the first edition. That's history for now. This is a new season and anything is possible. The Manjapaddas have roped in new players and will hope it changes their fortunes. They had a good pre-season and will hope to come out fresh as ever.
Winning start
Both teams will want to get their season underway with maximum points. A week of deadly floods hit Kerala in mid-August as more than 8,00,000 people were displaced, the death toll from the worst flooding to hit the southern Indian state in 100 years jumped to 350-plus. The catastrophic floods that hit Kerala had forced Kochi-based Kerala Blasters to shift camp to TransStadia in Ahmedabad for their pre-season training. Many of the international clubs came out on social media to hand support to this team from the south of India. This is football and it gets everyone together. Let's keep aside all the stories and focus on the game for now.
Matchday 1...
