Leon Osman's deflected shot and Victor Anichebe's second-half strike gave Everton a 2-0 win at home to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.
Osman's 18th-minute effort beat West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster with the help of a huge deflection off Baggies defender Gareth McAuley.
Anichebe scored the second goal just after the hour as Everton provisionally moved above Liverpool to seventh place with 43 points. The two Merseyside rivals meet in the FA Cup semifinals in two weeks' time.
Steven Pienaar should have put the result beyond doubt in the 74th minute having been played in by Nikica Jelavic but he shot straight at Foster.
