Benfica signed former Portugal midfielder Rui Costa on Thursday, returning him to the club he left 12 years ago. After playing in Lisbon from 1991-1994, Costa left the 31-time Portuguese league champion for Fiorentina and remained their for seven years. He later went to AC Milan for another five. The 34-year-old, who made 94 appearances for Portugal and scored 26 goals before retiring from international play after the 2004 European Championship, signed a one-year contract with Benfica. "I've come home," Costa said. "I'm back with the same passion, joy and enthusiasm I had 12 years ago. I'm in good shape". Costa had lost his place in Milan's starting lineup to Brazilian Kaka. (AP)
