Miami:
A Diego penalty in extra-time saw Brazil beat USA 2-1 and reach the final of the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Wednesday.
Brazilian playmaker Kaka scored in the final minute of normal time to cancel out Carlos Bocanegra's opening goal. Diego then sealed the win from the penalty spot in the first period of extra time after Cory Gibbs had handled the ball inside his own six yard box, an offence for which he was sent off.
Even though Brazil were looking the more dominant side, USA opened the scoring in the 62nd minute.
USA then tried to protect their lead, but in the final minute of normal time, Kaka scored off a rebound to take the match to extra time.
Brazil were then handed the match quite literally, after Cory Gibbs handled the ball in the area. Diego stepped up and made no mistake.
Brazil now faces either Costa Rica or Mexico on Sunday.
