Manama, Bahrain:

Iran survived a second-half onslaught to escape with a 0-0 draw against Bahrain in their Asian Zone World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. Iran fielded their strongest side, but were unable to make any impact against the disciplined Bahrainis, one of Asia's most improved teams over the past year. Japan top Group B after one match following their 2-1 home victory over North Korea on Wednesday. The top two teams in the group qualify for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany. (AP)
