Sao Paulo:
Paulo Autuori, who coached Sao Paulo to the Club World Championship title nearly two weeks ago in Japan, has accepted an offer to coach that country's Kashima Antlers, Sao Paulo said on Thursday.
A statement posted on the team's Web site said that earlier this week, Autuori had turned down an offer to coach the Japanese team.
"But this morning he phoned to tell me he had been approached again with a better offer and after consulting with his family he called back to tell me he had decided to accept the offer presented by the Japanese team,'' the statement quoted Sao Paulo Vice President Juvenal Juvencio as saying.
Local media reports said Autuori would sign a one-year contract with the Kashima Antlers, replacing that team's present coach Toninho Cerezo, also of Brazil.
Cerezo, a former Sao Paulo player, may replace Autuori at the Brazilian club, local reports said. (AP)
