FIFA World Cup | Colombia Players Greet Fans In Mexico Ahead Of Match Against DR Congo

Colombia supporters gathered Monday outside the national team's hotel in Mexico, taking part in what Colombians commonly call a "banderazo" ahead of the team's World Cup group-stage match against Congo. Some players stopped to sign autographs as hundreds of supporters crowded around the hotel. One supporter, Nicol Choconta, said she believed Colombia had the quality to compete for the World Cup title despite doubts from some observers. Supporters waved Colombian flags, took selfies and climbed trees to get a better view, while others used smoke flares as they chanted in support of the team. Fans Alex León and Juan Carlos Paz said they hoped Colombia could build on its opening victory and continue progressing in the tournament. The show of support came after Colombia's final training session before facing Congo was suspended because of a storm on Monday
