Sunday, Ivory Coast pulled off arguably the biggest upset so far in the World Cup, beating Ecuador 1-0 on Amad Diallo’s goal in the 90th minute in Philadelphia. The Ivorians had not played in the World Cup since 2014 and made the most of it by ending Ecuador’s 19-game unbeaten streak. Jubilant Ivory Coast fans celebrated outside Philadelphia Stadium, chanting, waving flags and embracing strangers as they savored a victory many had not expected. Among those celebrating was the daughter of Ivory Coast coach Emerse Faé, who told The Associated Press she was overwhelmed by emotion after watching the dramatic finish.
