With this result, Egypt have reached the Round of 32, while Belgium have also reached the knockouts after defeating New Zealand 5-1 in the Group G match.

He gets a brilliant rebound and launches the ball directly into the box. As the players begin to celebrate, referee Szymon Marciniak signals it off-side, leaving the players distraught. 

The 90 minutes of the FIFA World Cup match between Egypt and Iran are up and six minutes of extra time has been allotted. Will there be any twist in the tale now? 

88' Iran's Milad Mohammadi makes a quick run towards goal, but an Egypt defender tracks back well and wins the ball. Iran get a corner kick.

84' Another attempt missed by Egypt's Omar Marmoush. He tries to lift the ball into the box over the defenders, but a defender reacts quickly and stops the move.

79' Iran's Saeid Ezatolahi shows aggressiveness on the field. He brings an opponent down during a tackle and referee Szymon Marciniak shows a yellow card. 

74' Egypt's Saleh Hardani receives the ball and sends the cross inside the box. However, Iran defenders show brilliant alertness and they quickly snatch the ball and avert the coming danger. 

68' Egypt's Omar Marmoush shows terrific effort but fails to score a goal. Marmoush makes a strong run and fires a shot from mid-range, but a defender blocks it with his body to stop a clear chance. The ball goes out, and Egypt win a corner.

64' An Egyptian opponent goes down after a sliding tackle from Iran's Shoja Khalilzadeh. The referee spots the foul and blows his whistle, giving Egypt a free kick.

62' After replacing Mohamed Salah on the field, Zizo does not waste a second and starts attacking. He gets a good pass and takes a shot from mid-range, but a defender blocks it. The referee signals for a corner, and Egypt get the set-piece.

57' Egypt have decided to give their captain Mohamed Salah a break as he picks up injury. Seeing  Salah in pain, he is sent off the field and is now replaced by Zizo as Egypt aim for another goal at the earliest. 

52' Egypt's Mohanad Lasheen tries to make another terrific effort but fail to capitalize on it. Lasheen gets to the ball from a corner and does well to win it, but he sends his effort well wide of the left post from close range. The ball goes out, and Iran are awarded a goal kick.

Meanwhile, another Group G match of FIFA World Cup between Belgium and New Zealand is currently underway. Belgium are leading 2-0. The result of that match is highly likely to impact Egypt and Iran's qualification chances. 

50' Iran goalkeeper is at his best once again and he makes a good save. Egypt's Trezeguet reads the long pass well and runs into the box with only the goalkeeper to beat. He shoots early towards the bottom right corner, but Alireza Beiranvand makes a fine save to stop him. 

47' Iran's Saeid Ezatolahi gets on to a neat pass at the edge of the box, but he badly mistimes his shot and sends it high over the bar. Poor effort. The ball goes out, and Egypt get a goal kick.

Mahmoud Saber scored for Egypt in the fifth minute, while Ramin Rezaeian provided an equalizer to Iran in the 14th minute. In the second-half, both the teams are expected to go all guns blazing, in order to clinch the victory. 

45' 4' Iran defenders once again show alertness as they spoil Egypt's plan of taking a lead. Egypt's Mohamed Hany sends a good cross into the box, looking for a teammate’s header, but an Iranian defender jumps higher than everyone else and clears the danger.

42' Yasser Ibrahim shows aggression on the field and is quickly reprimanded by referee Szymon Marciniak. During his rough tackle, he ends up bringing an opponent down and the referee wastes no time and shows a yellow card. A big warning Yasser. 

38' Egypt's Mahmoud Saber makes another attempt of getting a goal. However, his effort just goes in vain. Saber tries a long-range shot from a rebound, but it goes wide of the left post. The ball goes out, and Iran get a goal kick.

33' Oh!!! Egypt's Mahmoud Saber, who hit the first goal for them, ends up committing a foul. Saber brings down his opponent with a sliding tackle, giving away a foul. Iran win a free kick in a good position to put pressure on Egypt’s goal.

31' Iran's Milad Mohammadi tries to reach a long crossfield pass, but it’s overhit and goes out of play. Egypt are awarded a goal kick.

28' Egypt's Mostafa Ziko gives his best to get another goal but his effort goes in vain. A good cross comes into the box and is almost reached by Mostafa Ziko, but a defender steps in quickly and clears the danger.

22' Iran defenders remain alert and avert a coming threat, denying Egypt their second goal of the day. Egypt's Mohamed Hany collects a loose ball and goes for a powerful long-range shot, but a defender blocks it. Egypt win a corner.

20' Referee Szymon Marciniak is having a tough time on the field as players of both the teams are showing aggression. First, he showed a yellow card to Iran's Hossein Kanaani for his rough tackle, which brought an opponent down. Later, he also showed a yellow card to Mahmoud Saber. 

17' Egypt's Mostafa Ziko gets on the end of a cross near the edge of the box, but his shot goes well wide of the right post. It’s a poor effort, and Iran get a goal kick.

14' GOAL!!! After missing the penalty kick, Iran finally recover from the blow and get an equalizer. Ramin Rezaeian squeezes in a goal from a very tight angle near the goal, finishing brilliantly from close range. The scores are now levelled 1-1.

11' WOAH!!!! What a terrific save from the Egyptian goalkeeper Oufa Shobeir as Iran fail to capitalize on the penalty kick. Shobeir reads the penalty well as Mehdi Taremi aims for the bottom right corner, and the goalkeeper makes a timely save to stop him. A big blow to Iran right now. 

10' Ohhh!!! A rough tackle from Egypt's Mohamed Abdelmonem as he brings Iran's player down. As a result, referee Szymon Marciniak gives a penalty kick to Iran. A golden moment for them to hit an equalizer. 

5' GOAL!!! Egypt have finally done it, After numerous early attempts, Egypt have finally managed to find the back of the nets, courtesy of Mahmoud Saber. The star player gets the rebound inside the box and calmly shoots the ball into the bottom left corner. Egypt take the lead.

3' Egypt's Mohamed Salah turns out to be a bit unlucky as his efforts of scoring an early goal against Iran goes in vain. Mohamed Salah meets a great cross inside the box and takes a shot. But a defender reacts quickly and clears the ball away.

2' Egypt's Emam Ashour aims to give his side an early lead but Iran defenders spoil his plan. Ashour tries to chip the ball into the box for his teammate, but a defender reads it well and intercepts the pass. Good defence from Iran.

Iran team faced some booing from Seattle crowd ahead of the crucial FIFA World Cup match against Egypt. This match is an important one for both the teams as a victory will take them straight into the Round of 32. 

Players of both teams are out on the field for their respective national anthems. The crucial FIFA World Cup 2026, Group G match between Egypt and Iran shall begin shortly. 

Egypt have four points and are almost certain to qualify for the Round of 32. A draw will be enough for them to at least finish second. They could even stay on top of the group with one point, unless Belgium beat New Zealand by two or more goals. If Egypt lose, they could drop to second or third, but they still have a strong chance of going through.

The perimeter of Seattle's World Cup stadium was dotted with rainbows on Friday, ahead of a match between teams representing two of the most repressive countries for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. It was just a coincidence that the city's “Pride Match” ended up as a high-stakes matchup between Iran and Egypt — with advancement from Group G still up in the air — and the move has come with plenty of pushback from both countries. But Seattle officials and the football community say this distinctive pairing is an opportunity to showcase the city's inclusivity as well as the common ground that can be found at the World Cup.
