West Brom will host Premier League leaders Manchester City on Monday without right-back Steven Reid who is facing one month on the sidelines following a knee operation.
The 30-year-old required surgery "to repair wear and tear" and Friday's surgery was not related to the ankle injury sustained by the player against Newcastle on Wednesday.
Baggies boss Roy Hodgson will also assess the fitness of James Morrison and Youssouf Mulumbu ahead of the Boxing Day clash with City.
A statement on the club's official website on Saturday read: "Steven Reid will be sidelined for around a month after undergoing a successful knee operation yesterday.
"The right-back required the surgery to repair wear and tear that had built up over the past couple of months.
"He was forced off in the seventh minute at Newcastle on Wednesday after twisting his left ankle and it is hoped that this injury will also heal during his rehab from his left-knee operation."
