London:

The Premier League is planning to introduce goal-line technology during next season if football's rule-makers sanction its use in July.

League chief executive Richard Scudamore says "when we are ready to go, we can go with it."

The options are Hawk-Eye, a camera-based ball-tracking system successfully used in tennis and cricket, and GoalRef, which uses a magnetic field with a special ball.

They are undergoing a final series of tests before the International Football Association Board decides whether to sanction them at a July 2 meeting. There isn't enough time to install technology in grounds before the English season starts in August.

Scudamore says "the original position was that we would only introduce it at the beginning of a season" but " there is some possibility of introducing it mid-season."
