c Mohammad Rizwan b Mohammad Nawaz
20.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Fifty and Out for Oshada Fernando! Beautiful piece of bowling by Mohammad Nawaz and he draws first blood for Pakistan. Nicely flighted, with a bit of drift into the off stump. Fernando puts a big stride forward and looks to defend it onto the off side but the ball grips and turns, just enough to catch the outside edge. Mohammad Rizwan makes no mistake behind the stumps and a breezy innings from Fernando comes to an end. Nawaz is elated and Pakistan have a breakthrough before Lunch. 92/1

Dimuth Karunaratne C | 40 | 90 | 3 | 0 | 44.44 |
c Naseem Shah b Yasir Shah
30 OUT! CAUGHT! A very smart catch from Naseem Shah and the Sri Lankan skipper departs. This is full and floated up around off, Dimuth Karunaratne looks to negotiate the turn by playing the cheeky reverse sweep again but this time he pays the price. Karunaratne makes a decent connection but gets it a bit uppishly to the right of point. Naseem Shah over there takes a good low catch diving to his right and Yasir Shah gets a wicket early in his first spell. Sri Lanka are now three down and Pakistan right on top here. 120/3

Kusal Mendis | 3 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 30 |
run out (Agha Salman)
23.2 OUT! RUN OUT! An unfortunate way to depart but Kusal Mendis has to walk back. Tossed up from Agha Salman and around off, Dimuth Karunaratne makes a bit of room and pushes it firmly back towards the bowler. Salman manages to get a finger on it and the ball goes on to hit the stumps. Kusal Mendis is backing up and has to turn back quickly. The decision is sent upstairs and the third umpire has a good look at it. The bat is still in the air as the bails come off and Mendis is sent back as Pakistan end the session on a high. That will also be Lunch on Day 1. 96/2

Angelo Mathews | 42 | 106 | 5 | 0 | 39.62 |
c Mohammad Rizwan b Nauman Ali
59.1 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A sharp take by Mohammad Rizwan behind the stumps and Angelo Mathews is sent back to the hut! Mathews could not make the most of his extra life and slips out in his 40s. This is a classical slow left-armer's dismissal, beautifully flighted by Nauman Ali on a nagging length and a bit outside the off stump. The ball grips and turns away a bit as it is given a lot more air and Mathews has a little dab at it. The ball takes the outside edge and Rizwan does the rest. Mathews falls short of his fifty but gets back to a round of applause from the crowd and from his family as well. 195/4

Dinesh Chandimal | 80 | 137 | 9 | 2 | 58.39 |
c Fawad Alam b Mohammad Nawaz
74.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Mohammad Nawaz sends back the big fish, Dinesh Chandimal. This is nicely tossed up on off, Dinesh Chandimal dances down the track to heave it over mid on but goes through his shot early. The ball takes a top edge and goes straight into the hands of Fawad Alam who was stationed at point. Pakistan have got the opening they were after. Can they make the most of it? 258/5
|
|||||
Dhananjaya de Silva | 33 | 61 | 3 | 1 | 54.09 |
b Naseem Shah
81.2 OUT! TIMBER! Naseem Shah gets the breakthrough with the second new ball. This is a bit fuller in length and on middle, nips back in slightly, just a perfect inswinging delivery. Dhananjaya de Silva plays for the outswing without any footwork and gets beaten all ends up. The ball goes onto crash into the stumps. Sri Lanka six down now and are running out of batters. 290/6
|
|||||
Niroshan Dickwella Wk | 51 | 54 | 6 | 1 | 94.44 |
c Mohammad Rizwan b Naseem Shah
91.5 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A loose shot from Niroshan Dickwella and Naseem Shah gets the double-strike! Just short of a length and close to the leg pole, it is there to be pulled. Dickwella looks to swivel-pull it fine but gets strangled down the leg side and ends up getting an edge on it. The ball goes through to the keeper Mohammad Rizwan who takes a simple catch and Dickwella has to depart after reaching his half-century. Pakistan just a couple of wickets away now from bundling out the opposition. 333/8
|
|||||
Dunith Wellalage | 11 | 20 | 2 | 0 | 55 |
c Babar Azam b Naseem Shah
89.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Naseem Shah with a spicy bouncer and he has got the early breakthrough for Pakistan! Shah keeps coming from around the wicket and angles in a short ball at 136 clicks. The ball is bowled at a decent height but it is the line that has done the trick. The ball is angled in towards the body and Dunith Wellalage tries his best to bend his back and sway away from the line of the ball. The ball goes off the gloves and pops up around the gully region. Babar Azam attacks it from the slip cordon and takes a simple catch. 327/7
|
|||||
Ramesh Mendis | 35 | 52 | 4 | 1 | 67.30 |
b Yasir Shah
103 OUT! TIMBER! Quicker one does the trick for Yasir Shah and he picks up his third wicket of the innings. It is pushed through quicker, on fourth stumps, turns in a touch. Mendis is caught inside his crease and ends up playing all around it. The ball goes through to rattle the stumps. Pakistan have bowled out Sri Lanka for 378. 378/10
|
|||||
Prabath Jayasuriya | 8 | 17 | 0 | 0 | 47.05 |
lbw b Yasir Shah
97 OUT! LBW! Well, well, well. Pakistan have won the battle. Cannot really blame the umpire for not giving this out initially as the batter was way too far down the track. This is flatter around middle and leg, Prabath Jayasuriya comes down the track to block it but his bat gets stuck behind his back pad. He gets rapped on the pads and Yasir is up in elation. Yes, it was not even an appeal. Shah is confident that the batsman is out. Now, it is interesting to see Kumar Dharmasena's reaction. He stays still as a stone, almost waiting for Yasir to plead on his knees and then shakes his head after what seems a century, indicating that the batsman was far too forward. Shah looks at Rizwan and Babar, with the keeper smiling. He agrees it looks close but also cautions Babar that this might be a case of height as the batsman was way down the crease. Babar looks at the keeper and bowler, smiles and then takes the review. No point in checking UltraEdge but the protocols must be followed. Well, does not take much time to show that there is no bat involved. Now, the Ball Tracking. Where is the impact? IN LINE! Well, well, well. And checking further, it projects the ball to be hitting the stumps. In what seems like a rarity, Dharmasena has to reverse his decision! He rarely has to, he is that good an umpire. Well, Yasir has struck in his first over of the day and Pakistan are now a wicket away from batting. 353/9

b Asitha Fernando
0.2 OUT! CLEANED UP! It is the line and the length that is key here. Abdullah Shafique the hero of the previous game walks back on a duck. It is a length ball, on fourth stump, just shaping away a touch. Abdullah Shafique does not move his feet and tries to poke at it from inside the crease but ends up playing the wrong line. The ball takes the inside edge and disturbs the stumps. Asitha Fernando is pumped up with this early wicket and so are the fans in Galle. 0/1

Imam-ul-Haq | 32 | 54 | 4 | 0 | 59.25 |
b Dhananjaya de Silva
18.2 OUT! TIMBER! Dhananjaya de Silva strikes and finds the third wicket for his side. He will be surely happy to see the back of Imam-ul-Haq. Dhananjaya de Silva serves a loopy delivery, outside off, that comes in with the arm. Imam-ul-Haq tries to defend it out but plays the wrong line. The ball sneaks through the gap between bat and pad to rattle the furniture behind. Sri Lanka are dominating the proceeding here. 65/3

Babar Azam C | 16 | 34 | 3 | 0 | 47.05 |
b Prabath Jayasuriya
9.4 OUT! CHOPPED ON! Prabath Jayasuriya, the bowler in form gets the big fish! Jayasuriya goes a bit wider of the crease and tries to curve it in from wide outside off. Babar Azam goes chasing after a full and wide one and pays the price. Babar looks to cover drive, away from the body and with no feet movement, doesn't get to the pitch of the ball. The ball takes the inside edge and goes on to rattle the stumps. A huge moment in the innings as Babar departs cheaply and Jayasuriya is ecstatic. 35/2

Mohammad Rizwan Wk | 24 | 35 | 3 | 0 | 68.57 |
lbw b Ramesh Mendis
26.2 OUT! It looks to be plumb! Ramesh Mendis appeals for lbw and the umpire raises his dreaded finger. Mohammad Rizwan has a chat with his partner at the other end and goes for the review with just one second on the timer. Coming to the delivery. It is full and on leg. This stays low a touch off the deck. Mohammad Rizwan tries to block it out but misses. He gets rapped on his pads. The original decision is OUT. The review also does not help Rizwan, as the Ball Tracking shows three reds. Pakistan are in a spot of bother here. 88/4

|||||
Fawad Alam | 24 | 69 | 1 | 0 | 34.78 |
lbw b Ramesh Mendis
40.1 OUT! LBW! That is plumb! Ramesh Mendis picks up his second wicket of the innings and sends back a dangerous man in Fawad Alam. This could well be the opening that the Sri Lankans were after. It is tossed up, around middle and leg. Alam comes across and tries to block it out but misses. He gets rapped on the pads and Mendis turns around to make a loud appeal. The umpire agrees and raises his dreaded finger and Alam doesn't even review it, rightly so. 119/5

Agha Salman | 62 | 126 | 4 | 1 | 49.20 |
c Dhananjaya de Silva b Prabath Jayasuriya
69.4 OUT! TAKEN! Dhananjaya de Silva makes amends for some lazy work earlier and takes a sharp catch. Nicely tossed up by Prabath Jayasuriya, on a nagging length and on off stump. There is a bit of drift into the right-hander and then the ball just grips and turns away, a dream delivery for a slow left-armer. Agha Salman puts a big stride forward to defend but the ball takes the outside edge and de Silva takes a very good catch to his left at first slip. Salman has to walk back in disappointment as he fails to see out Day 2 but Sri Lanka have the breakthough they so desperately wanted. 191/7
|
|||||
Mohammad Nawaz | 12 | 37 | 1 | 0 | 32.43 |
c Niroshan Dickwella b Ramesh Mendis
50.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A sharp catch by Niroshan Dickwella behind the sticks and Ramesh Mendis has his third! This is bowled on a nagging length and close to the off pole. There is a bit of turn on offer but once again Mohammad Nawaz looks to cut off the back foot rather than coming forward and this time he pays the price. The ball isn't short enough to cut and is too close to the stumps as well. Nawaz gets a thick outside edge that goes straight into the keeper's mitts. Sri Lanka well and truly in command here. 145/6
|
|||||
Yasir Shah | 26 | 97 | 0 | 1 | 26.80 |
lbw b Ramesh Mendis
88.1 OUT! LBW! That is it for the Pakistan innings. Ramesh Mendis gets his fifth wicket and he is delighted. He floats this up on middle, drifting in a bit, Yasir Shah leans on to defend but plays down the wrong line completely and gets wrapped around the pads. There is an appeal for LBW and the finger goes up this time. Yasir Shah opts for the review immediately. The UltraEdge shows that there is no bat involved and Ball tracking shows that the ball is clipping the leg-stump and it is umpire's call on wicket. Yasir Shah's resistance comes to an end and with that, Pakistan end their innings on 231. 231/10
|
|||||
Hasan Ali | 21 | 54 | 0 | 1 | 38.88 |

83.4 OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! Finally, Prabath Jayasuriya does get the breakthrough! Floats it up full and around off stump, Hasan Ali gets down on one knee and looks for the big slog-sweep against the turn. Ali ends up getting a faint inside edge and the ball goes on to hit the base of the stumps. Ali walks back in utter disappointment after playing a decent hand but the man who can do nothing wrong at the moment, Prabath Jayasuriya gives Sri Lanka the opening they were looking for and Pakistan now trail by 155 runs. 223/8

He is playing for the turn but there isn't any and this is what beats him. There is a huge shout for LBW and it is given. 15.2 OUT! LBW! Mohammad Nawaz appeals and the umpire raises the dreaded finger. Kusal Mendis has a word with his partner and decides to walk back to the pavilion. It is looped up, full and on leg stump. Kusal Mendis gets down on one knee and tries to sweep it away but does not get bat on ball. The ball goes on to hit him on the pads. It looks plumb as it seems to be strightening rather than going on with the angle. Mohammad Nawaz makes a loud appeal and gets his first wicket of the innings. 59/3

Angelo Mathews | 35 | 62 | 4 | 1 | 56.45 |
c Babar Azam b Agha Salman
29.5 OUT! CAUGHT! Pakistan are ecstatic as they get their man with the help of the review. There is appeal for a catch! The umpire is not interested. Babar Azam is convinced by his bowler and takes the review. It is tossed up, around off, turning a touch off the deck. Angelo Mathews stays back and tries to block it away but does so inside the line. The ball seems to have bounced off the pads, as Babar Azam hops and grabs it at first slip. The UltraEdge though later confirms that there is a spike as the ball passes the blade. The umpire is forced to overturn his decision and Angelo Mathews trudges back to the pavilion shaking his head. Also, its a maiden Test wicket for Agha Salman. 100/4

This is bowled a bit short on middle and off, turning in a bit, Dimuth Karunaratne tries to flick it with the turn but hits it towards the short leg fielder. Abdullah Shafique there shows great reflexes and grabs it to his left. Pakistani players are delighted to break this partnership as it was taking the game well away from them and Nauman Ali has done the job for his team. 243/6

run out (Yasir Shah)
91.5 NO BALL AND RUN OUT! Dhananjaya de Silva gets run-out and there's the signal from Dimuth Karunaratne of the declaration. Naseem Shah bowls it on middle and Ramesh Mendis just flicks it to short mid-wicket. Both batters set off for the single but Mendis pulls out halfway through the run. Dhananjaya de Silva is left stranded in the middle as Yasir Shah hits the bullseye at the non-striker's end. An unfortunate end to a brilliant innings from DDS but Sri Lanka have declared on 360/8 whilst having a mammoth lead of 507 runs. 360/8
