The Under-19 Indian side, led by Vijay Zol, won the recently concluded Asia Cup, beating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.
India beat arch-nemesis Pakistan to be crowned Asian champions in the U-19 tournament in Abu Dhabi. Indian skipper Vijay Zol and IPL star Sanju Samson laid the foundation with centuries. Pakistan, chasing a stiff total, failed to keep up with the asking rate and finished 40 runs short.
India will open their campaign against the UAE on December 28 while the much awaited contest against the arch-rivals Pakistan will take place on December 31.
It was a near-perfect performance by the Vijay Zol-led Indians, who suffered just one loss during the tournament, also featuring Australia and Zimbabwe.
Both India and South Africa are on 16 points from five matches and South Africa's win helped them shut the door on Australia with a match to go.
In reply to New Zealand's total of 310, India A scored a healthy 388 for seven courtesy Zol's 110 and skipper Abhishek Nayar's unbeaten 102.
India rode on skipper Vijay Zol half-century to score 240 and then bundled out hosts for 218 in 47 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Resuming the second day on 70 for two, India declared their first innings at 393/8 riding on Zol's 128. Sizeable contributions came from Sanju Samson (70) and Shreyas Iyer (84) -- the two had made half-centuries in the first Test as well.
Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis's decision to field backfired badly as Zol (129 batting) along with Sanju Samson (74 batting) added 169 runs for the unbroken third-wicket stand after openers Shubham Khajuria (52) and Akhil Herwardkar (71) provided a solid start with 79-run opening stand.
Vijay Zol led the Indian team from front to win the triangular series in Australia, remaining unbeaten all through. He was adjudged Man of the Series for his brilliant performance with the bat.
