Goodbye for now! India U19 have pulled up stumps on a perfect day, securing a massive win that shoots them straight to the top of the points table. The cricket doesn't stop here, though, as Australia U19 are set to face off against West Indies U19 this Wednesday, January 28th at 7.30 am GMT. We’ll be back at the crease for the toss and build-up then, but for now, it’s goodbye from the commentary box!
The captain of India Under-19 - Ayush Mhatre says he is happy that the boys are doing well and is confident they are scoring runs. Adds that the boys are waiting to get the chance and score big. He says that Vihaan Malhotra and Abhigyan Kundu batted really well and that he just tried his own bowling and got the wickets. Ends by saying that they are excited to play against Pakistan, and they will play their natural game.
The captain of Zimbabwe Under-19 - Simbarashe Mudzengerere says that they were happy to bowl first, they could have executed a bit better in the middle phase as he feels his bowlers were a bit too full. Adds that India plays fearless cricket and doesn't hold back to any bad balls.
Vihaan Malhotra is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 109 runs! Vihaan Malhotra says it is a great feeling to contribute to the team's win. Mentions that he and Kundu planned to play a longer innings while scoring occasional boundaries. Reckons it was hot today, the pitch was nice to bat on. On Kundu, Malhotra says he was playing his normal game, and the communication was good between them.
Presentations coming up...
Vihaan Malhotra's brilliant century - Earlier in the game, India U19 piled up a mammoth 353/8, leaving Zimbabwe with a mountain to climb. After being put in to bat, India got off to a flyer thanks to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's blistering 24-ball fifty, though Zimbabwe’s Tatenda Chimugoro briefly checked the flow with key wickets. The innings was anchored by a superb 113-run partnership between Abhigyan Kundu and Vihaan Malhotra, who carried his bat for a magnificent unbeaten 109.
India Under-19 were clinical with the ball - Once the resistance was broken, the floodgates opened. The Indian bowling unit, led by skipper Ayush Mhatre and Udhav Mohan, cleaned up the tail in quick succession. Both Mhatre and Mohan claimed three wickets apiece, while R.S. Ambrish picked up a brace. Zimbabwe lost their momentum and collapsed, ultimately being bowled out for 148 in the 38th over.
Zimbabwe Under-19 showed some bright spots in the middle - Despite the rocky start, Zimbabwe showed some real character in the middle overs. Kian Blignaut and Leeroy Chiwaula stood strong, frustrating the Indian attack with a gritty 69-run partnership off 109 balls. Chiwaula was the standout performer, scoring a fighting 62 and finding good support from Tatenda Chimugoro later on, who chipped in with 29. For a brief period, they managed to keep the bowlers at bay and even showed some aggression.
India Under-19 had set the tone early on! India U19 have wrapped up a flawless day at the office, storming to the top of the points table with a massive 204-run victory. Chasing a mountain of 353 runs, Zimbabwe never really got out of first gear. The Indian bowlers struck immediately, sending both openers, Nathaniel Hlabangana and Dhruv Patel, back to the pavilion within the first four overs. With the scoreboard reading a shaky 26/3 after the first powerplay, it looked like Zimbabwe were just trying to survive rather than chase.
